Take Back the Night Walk set for Thursday
LISBON — The Christina Center, East Washington Street, Lisbon will host its annual Take Back the Night Walk at 5 p.m. Thursday to shine a light on Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
The event this year will feature state Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel, R-New Waterford, as the special speaker.
A program of Catholic Charities Regional Agency, the Christina House domestic violence program serves victims of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and human trafficking with services which include protective shelter, legal advocacy and referrals to allied agencies.
The Columbiana County commissioners recently approved a proclamation declaring October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, urging all citizens to “learn more about prevention of domestic violence and to show support of organizations and individuals who provide critical advocacy, services and assistance to victims.”
The proclamation noted that domestic violence affects all people of all economic, racial and societal barriers.
“The crime of domestic violence violates an individual’s privacy and dignity, security, and humanity, due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, and economic control and/or abuse including abuse to children and the elderly,” the proclamation said.
