Friends of the Banquet hosting dinner

SALEM — The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the meal which features penne pasta with meatballs, bread, salad, green beans, fresh fruit and vegetables and ice cream sundaes.

United schedules new student registration

HANOVERTON — United Local Schools will hold new student registration for the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday and Wednesday. New student registration packets are available in the administrative office or on the school website. To schedule an appointment call Ann Peters at 330-223-2831. Appointments are available from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Bring your child’s birth certificate, Social Security number, immunization records, two proofs of residency and custody papers, if applicable.

United schedules new student registration

LISBON – A representative from the Medication Assistance Program will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 2 at the First United Methodist Church, 114 E. Washington St. This program is open to anyone who is uninsured or underinsured regardless of age. Bring your medication bottles with you. Help with Medicare Part D problems is also available.

Hunting Club hosting fundraiser trap shoot

SALEM — The Salem Hunting Club is hosting its 14th annual Lowell Iden Scholarship Fundraiser Trap Shoot on Aug. 5. All proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund named after past club president, Lowell Iden.

An all-you can eat breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. Trap shooting runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be available shortly after breakfast. The club is also holding a 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction. Winners need not be present. Tickets are available through the club or Janet Iden at 330-332-5765.

Leetonia K of C holding Aug. 5 barbecue

LEETONIA — Leetonia Council 1569 Knights of Columbus will sponsor a chicken and ribs barbecue from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, 167 W. Main St., Leetonia.

Proceeds from the event will go to various council, church and school renovation projects. The dinner will be by advance tickets only for $12.50 each and a children’s menu for $3. Carryouts will be available.

Riverside Gardens will be closed today

YOUNGSTOWN — Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek MetroParks will be closed to the public beginning at 3 p.m. today for the annual Summer Garden Party fundraiser. This event is hosted by the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens. The Gardens will reopen to the public on Saturday morning. For more information call 330-740-7116.

Ohio EPA schedules public meeting

EAST LIVERPOOL — Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public meeting on Aug. 10 concerning two proposed permit renewals for Heritage Thermal Services (HTS) in East Liverpool. The public information session and hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the Westgate Middle School Complex Auditorium, 810 W. Eighth St., East Liverpool.

Ohio EPA has issued draft hazardous waste and air permits for HTS’s hazardous waste treatment and storage facility located at 1250 St. George St.. If issued final, the permits would allow HTS to continue storing, treating and incinerating hazardous wastes from off-site generators.

Copies of the draft permits and related materials are available online at epa.ohio.gov/pic/respond.aspx. Copies also are available at the Carnegie Public Library, 219 E. Fourth St., East Liverpool, and Ohio EPA’s Northeast District Office in Twinsburg by first calling 330-963-1200.

Comments concerning the draft permits may be presented at the public hearing or submitted in writing to: Ohio EPA-DAPC, Attn: Tim Fischer, 2110 E. Aurora Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087. Comments also may be emailed to publiccomment@epa.ohio.gov. The public comment period ends Aug. 18. Following consideration of public comments, Ohio EPA will make a final decision on the permits.
