Abundant Life Fellowship will serve as warming center

NEW WATERFORD — Abundant Life Fellowship at 46469 state Route 46 will be open as a warming center for anyone who needs it from 9 a.m. today through 9 a.m. Friday.

No beds or showers will be available, however, there will be plenty of food, warmth and fellowship. Patrons are asked to access the building through the side entrance in the back.

Salvation Army opening doors as warming center

SALEM — The Salvation Army of Salem, located at 1249 N. Ellsworth Ave., will open its doors to serve as a warming center and a place to provide shelter from the bitter cold. With sub-zero temperatures expected over the next two days, the Salvation Army wants to offer a safe place for community members to get out of the cold.

The warming center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Thursday. Coffee and soup will be available to anyone who enters the building during these hours.

Fish fry scheduled at Leetonia Italian American Club

LEETONIA — The public is invited to a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Leetonia Italian American Club.

Carryouts are available by calling 330-427-9900.

St. Patrick’s Church hosting fundraiser dinner

LEETONIA — A chicken parmesan and pasta dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church, 167 Main St. Cost is $10 per adult and $5 for children 10 and under.

Proceeds from this fundraiser, organized by the seventh and eighth-grade Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes, will benefit St. Patrick’s Food Pantry.

Public invited to Salem Preservation meeting

SALEM — The public is welcome to the next meeting of Salem Preservation which begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Ruth Smucker House, 271 S. Broadway Ave.

Library class will feature making Valentine cards

SALEM — Adults are invited to make Valentine cards during the Gettin’ Crafty class at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library.

Materials will be provided. Registration is required at salem.lib.oh.us or 330-332-0042.

Families invited 4-H open house on Feb. 12

SALEM — Families of children ages 5 to 18 are invited to a 4-H open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center, 440 Pennsylvania Ave.

Volunteers will be available to demonstrate and talk about a variety of projects including growing vegetables, cooking, sewing, all terrain vehicle safety, animals, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, etc. For more information call The Ohio State University Extension office at 330-424-7291.

Community Hospice’s volunteer open house planned

SALEM — Community Hospice’s volunteer open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 14 at 2341 E. State St. Unit B in the Giant Eagle Plaza. Heather Kane, volunteer coordinator, will discuss ways volunteers can bring their talents to Hospice.

Community Hospice volunteer training classes will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 19, 21, 26 and 28 from at 2341 E. State St. Volunteer opportunities include reading or journaling, facilitating activities, veteran programs, making phone calls, bereavement support, hair stylists/barbers and visiting patients in their homes or facilities.

United Local hosting parent orientation meeting

HANOVERTON — Parents of children who will be 5 before Aug. 1 and live in the United Local School District or are considering open enrollment are invited to attend a parent orientation meeting at 6 p.m. March 11 in the elementary cafeteria. At the meeting, registration packets will be handed out and other information will be shared to help with enrolling new kindergarteners and getting them off to a successful start.

Also at the meeting, appointments will be scheduled for March 19, 20 or 21, when packets can be returned and students will be screened.

Documents to bring to the meeting are the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, custody documents (if applicable), a photo identification and two proofs of residency. These will be presented along with the completed registration packet on the scheduled screening date.

Open enrollment forms will be available at the parent orientation meeting, in addition to the registration packet. Open enrolling families will need to register with their home school district first and then they may apply with United Local. For more information call the elementary office at 330-223-8001.

LISBON — Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services will host its winter quarterly informational fair from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at 7989 Dickey Drive Suite II.
