raffling baskets for scholarship
SALEM –The Salem High School Class of 1969 will be raffling off 11 prizes, valuing from $20 to $165, prior to the boys junior varsity and varsity basketball games on Jan. 25 in the gym lobby at the high school. Cost is $5 per ticket. Winners will be drawn just prior to, and announced, at half time. Arrangements will be made with any winner(s) not present to get the prize at an alternate location. All proceeds benefit the Salem High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. This fundraiser is sponsored by the 50th-year reunion committee.
Salem Masons to hold
breakfast buffet Saturday
SALEM — The public is invited to a breakfast buffet from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Building, 788 E. State St. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea. A handicap accessible elevator is available.
Deerfield Historical Society dance slated for Monday
DEERFIELD — Deerfield Historical Society’s third Monday dance will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Deerfield Town Hall, 1450 Route 14. Music will be provided by the Deerfield House Band. Refreshments available for purchase. Admission is $4.

R-Weigh Afternoon group holds first meeting of new year
SALEM — The first R-Weigh Evening meeting of 2019 was held on Jan. 14 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue with 29 members attending. Honorable mention in Group One went to Colleen Wafler and Rosemarie Martinez.
Group Two winners were Pauline Zirkle, good loser and Susan Cain, runner up. Honorable mention went to Chris Learn, Andrea France, Judy Smith, Doris Senior and Joan Schafer. Goalie good loser was Peggy Kurtz.
There were no winners in the regular Can Do contest. The winners in the goalie Can Do contest were Nancy Stryffeler and Janel Anderson. Calorie chart winners were Wafler, Judy Smith, France and Cain. Goalie calorie chart winners were Lisa Johnson, Patty Hartman and Kurtz.
Kurtz offered the inspiration titled “Pressing On.” Joan Schafer’s Tool Box was on “Look Ahead,” reflecting on healthy living. New members are welcome. Weigh-ins are from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. with the meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays at the church.

pancake breakfast is Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN — The monthly pancake breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Aut Mori Grotto, 563 N. Belle Vista Ave. The menu offers link sausage, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, potatoes, coffee, juice, and all-you-can-eat pancakes.
