OSU Extension works with Leetonia Schools

The Ohio State University Extension recently partnered with Leetonia Schools to offer in-classroom instruction to eighth-grade students in Marsha Coffee’s Family and Consumer Science class. The program was supported by the Columbiana County Education Service Center and funded through the Community Connectors Grant. Each hands-on lesson focused on overall wellness by exploring MyPlate, trying new fruits, cooking with whole grains, and understanding mindfulness. Pictured are, from left, Todd Duke, Andrew Bulford and Joe Guido working together to explore the daily allowance of fat grams within a teenager’s diet. After choosing their typical meal from a given restaurant, groups researched the total fat grams from each component of the meal and used pompoms to see how many fat grams they had remaining for the day.
