“Desert Adaptations” featured at Salem Library

SALEM — The Salem Public Library will present the program “Desert Adaptations: Live from the World’s Largest Indoor Desert” at 6:30 p.m. March 28 in the Quaker Room.

The presentation, provided by Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, will look inside the geodesic dome which houses the indoor desert and search for cactus, birds, mammals and reptiles that survive in this location that simulates a desert. A zookeeper and LIVE Animal Ambassador will be the educators during the program that is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Interactive video programming provides the audience the opportunity to participate more fully in the learning process.

Free swim class offered at Communit Center

SALEM — To celebrate April as Adult Learn to Swim Month, the Salem Community Center will offer a free class for beginners called Swim Salem 101. The class will take place from 11 to 11:45 a.m. every Thursday in April. Swim Salem 101 will be instructed by Barb Clary, USMS O*H*I*O Masters Swim Team member and USMS Adult Learn-To-Swim Certified Instructor. Due to space limitation, registration will be required.

Adult private and semi-private lessons will also be offered at 20 percent off during the month. Private lesson and Swim Salem 101 registration may take place with the Director of Aquatics at 330-332-5885.

Family & Children First Council to meet

LISBON — The Family & Children First Council of Columbiana County will hold its March Mandated Member meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in the Board Room of the Columbiana County Educational Service Center, 38720 Saltwell Road. The council’s March General Member meeting at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the same location.

Irish tenor to perform at St. Columba Cathedral

YOUNGSTOWN — Irish tenor Emmet Cahill will make a return appearance to St. Columba Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5.

Cahill is one of the lead singers of Celtic Thunder and he last played at St. Columba for a Christmas show in December 2017. He will perform a combination of Irish music and church hymns.

Tickets are $35 to $55 and can be purchased at or by calling the church rectory at 330-744-5233. The $55 price includes a meet-and-greet with the singer and there is a limited number of tickets.

St. Columba is located at 159 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown. There is ample free parking with security and the church is handicap-accesible.
