Salem seniors to meet Wednesday

SALEM–Salem Area Senior Citizens will meet at noon Wednesday at the Memorial Building. There will be installation of officers and dues are $8 per year.

Banquet in Salem to feature meat loaf

SALEM–An anonymous donor in memory of Todd and Garrett Vadino and Carson Bonar will sponsor the Banquet in Salem 4th Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Memorial Building. Boy Scout Troop 2 of United Methodist Church will serve the meal. The menu will include chicken noodle soup, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cole slaw, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and ice cream. Salem Alumni office open Saturday

SALEM–The Salem High School Alumni Association office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday for students to drop off their scholarship applications. All postsecondary applications are due by noon that day, and can be mailed or brought into the alumni association office located at 330 E. State St. Questions can be answered by calling 330-332-1427 or accessing the SHSAA website at www.salemohioalumni.org.

Leetonia schools to host state superintendent

LEETONIA–The Leetonia School District will be hosting State School Superintendent Pete LuPiba on Friday. LuPiba will tour the Leetonia K-12 Campus with district superintendent Rob Mehno. While touring the campus LuPiba will review the robotics program, Exact Path, along with a review of the schools safety features and the Destination Imagination Team.

Job search topic at Salem library

SALEM–Salem Public Library will host a presentation by technology instructor Stephanie Peterson, entitled “The Search,” to demonstrate resourceful ways to use the Internet to search for employment opportunities at 6:30 p.m. April 3 in the Quaker Room. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop computer or tablet in order to save classroom work if possible as the number of library devices may be limited.

Seating is limited and registration is required. Register online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or call the library for registration assistance at 330-332-0042. The class is open to the public and free of cost to attend. The class is provided through a Guiding Ohio Online grant made by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio.

Quota taking scholarship applications

SALEM– Applications forms for the Annual Mona McArtor Scholarship given by Quota International Salem are available in the guidance offices at the following local high schools: Salem, Beaver Local, Lisbon, Louisville, Marlington, Sebring and West Branch. Applications may also be requested by calling Connie Phillips at 330-332-0121.

The scholarship was established in 1978 as an ongoing memorial to Miss McArtor, a deceased member and past president of the club. The scholarship is valued at $500 and is awarded each year to a student going into an undergraduate or graduate level program and pursuing a career in the speech/audiology field.

The completed scholarship application and attachments are due no later than May 1. All students who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is awarded in early June.

Financial workshops set at Mount Union

ALLIANCE– Senior students in the University of Mount Union’s finance program are partnering with the United Way of Greater Stark County’s Financial Prosperity Center and Rodman Public Library to offer a four-part series of workshops for the community at 6 p.m. each Wednesday in April at the Rodman Public Library.

Landri Moore of Lisbon is one of the students who will present in the upcoming financial workshops.

Each workshop will focus on a different aspect of financial literacy that many Americans struggle with, per Forbes. All workshops are free and open to the public. Topics are as follows:

— April 3 – Budgeting

— April 10 – Building and Maintaining Credit

— April 17 – Funding Higher Education

— April 24 – Investing for Retirement and Program Wrap-Up

Each workshop will have a drawing for a $50 gift card provided by the United Way. Those who attend all four workshops will be entered into the final drawing for a $400 gift card.
