Aaron Buxton annual reunion scheduled for Aug. 4 in Salem

SALEM- The 95th Aaron Buxton Reunion will be held Aug. 4 at Centennial Park, pavilion one. Lunch will be at noon with a photo taken at 1 p.m. Homemade ice cream will follow lunch.

Those attending are asked to bring covered dish to share, wrapped gift for the raffle, pictures and family information.

WB Area Ladies Ruritan Club honors scholarship winners

NORTH GEORGETOWN-The West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club had its annual picnic July 15 at the First Brethren Church in North Georgetwn. There were 24 in attendance.

Robin Mayer asked the group to give the “Pledge of Allegiance” and Viola Blanchard led singing “God Bless America.” Mayer gave a prayer and the group enjoyed the special food.

Scholarships were given to West Branch High School graduates. Sarah Teutsch is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Teutsch. Her plans are to attend Kent State University in Salem, wanting to teach English and history in middle school. Jessica Hartzell is the daughter of Debbie Hartzell. Her plans are attending Malone University, studying Criminal Restorative Justice. She will be on the flag team with the marching band.

The club will be having a bake sale at the Damascus Ruritan Car Show from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16. at the Damascus Friends Church.

The next board meeting will be held Aug. 12 and the general meeting on Aug. 17.

West Point Lions Club holds meeting prior to fundraiser

LISBON-The second annual chicken barbecue and chicken roast was discussed by the West Point Lions Club at the regular meeting July 15 at the Lisbon Lions Club, presided by President Cathy Brownfield.

Chairpersons Violet Mellon and Michele Fisher reported the final plans for the barbecue. Tables would be decorated after the meeting. Times for other tasks, including the Chinese and silent auction tables to be arranged, portion servings of applesauce and coleslaw to be prepared, chicken and corn to be picked up, were announced. Everyone was urged to help where they can.

The barbecue was held Saturday at the Lisbon Lions Club, Industrial Park Road. Many gift baskets and gift cards were donated by merchants from all over Columbiana County, as well as gift baskets provided by individual members of the West Point Lions Club, including a box of lottery tickets.

Proceeds from this major club fundraising event will benefit the West Point and Madison Township community.

Secretary Mellon reminded the club about the steak dinner being held Aug. 8 at the Darlington Lions Club. Anyone who wants to go should sign the reservation sheet.

Lion Janis Mundy, membership chair, reported eight call-offs.

President Cathy asked the club’s committees to have quarterly meetings and report back with the results of those meetings to determine if the committees are still needed. Discussion was held about assistance for house fire victims in Madison Township and resulted in an addition to the policies, constitution and bylaws of the club by Pat Tressler.

The president also asked the Lions to send cards to sisters in Lions currently dealing with health issues and surgery: Carol Anderson, Dolly Campbell, Arla Ehrhart, Jeanne Butream, Sandy Conn and Gloria Judy. She reminded the club that Casey Dale is now in charge of Sunshine.

West Point Lions are collecting new and gently used shoes for a fundraiser set to begin in August. Co-chairpersons of the fundraising committee are Joann Clayton and Casey Dale.

While Dolly is recuperating, her daughter, Donna, is the go-to person and will take care of the Bingo kitchen orders through Campbell’s Grocery.

Tail Twister Marie Amato conducted the 50/50 drawing. Lion Janice Wylie gave both the invocation at the beginning of the meeting and the benediction at the conclusion of the meeting. After adjournment refreshments were provided by Carrie Catlett, Rhonda Coil, Violet Mellon and Cathy Brownfield.

The next meeting is 7 p.m. Aug. 5, preceded by a board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by Kay Bettis, Marie Amato and Sue Shormann.

Greenford High School Alumni banquet to honor ’69 class

GREENFORD-The 115th Greenford High School Alumni banquet will be held Aug. 17 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The honor class this year is the last class to graduate from Greenford-the Class of 1969. Their dinner will be free. OSU Alumni Club to hold

student send-off picnic Aug. 8

COLUMBIANA-The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Columbiana County will hold its annual Summer Send-Off Picnic on Aug. 8 at Pavilion 4 in Firestone Park. Arrive at 5:30 p.m. to visit; dinner will be at 6 p.m. All alumni and their families, incoming freshman and current OSU students and their families as well as friends of OSU are invited. Hot dogs and hamburgers, buns, beverages, condiments and table service will be provided. Those attending should bring a covered dish and serving utensil. All OSU students in attendance will be entered in a drawing for two $250 door prizes and lots of OSU paraphernalia. Non-student adults are asked for a $5 donation to offset event costs. Salem Elks ruler participates

in national convention

SALEM- B.P.O.Elk Delegates throughout the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, Philippines and the Panama Canal attended the 155th annual National Convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America.

Exalted Ruler Connie Smith of the Salem Elks Lodge No. 305 attended the National Convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks this past week in St Louis Missouri.

Smith was responsible for voting on decisions affecting the Order and its policies.

Smith also attended seminars and workshops enabling her to inform the Lodges’ officers and members how to best serve the community.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will recognize the top winners in the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship Program. The top boy and girl will each receive a $50,000 college scholarship. Annually, the Elks award college scholarships across the nation totaling more than $4.7 million. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has made more than $5 billion in donations since first started 151 years ago. Last year alone, the Elks donated approximately $420 million in cash, gifts and time to make communities better places to live. The Elks are one of the premier patriotic and charitable organizations in the United States of America. There are more than 1,800 Elks Lodges across the country with a total membership nearing 800,000. Elks’ members must be American citizens who are at least 21 years of age and must believe in God
