Saxon Club honors scholarship winners
SALEM- The Salem Saxon Scholarship Fund awarded its annual scholarships at a dinner on July 12 at the club home. This is the 34th year that scholarships have been given to area high school students. Five scholarships were awarded, including a scholarship in honor of deceased Saxon Club member Carole Flick.
The scholarships were awarded this year to Salem High School graduate Meghan M. Griffith (Carole Flick Memorial Scholarship), daughter of Michelle and Dan Griffith; Central Cambria High School graduate Thomas A. Swope, son of Lisa and Tom Swope; Leetonia High School attendee and Ohio Connections Academy graduate Madisyn Best, daughter of Chistina and Kenneth Best; United High School graduate Alyssa Inman, daughter of Tara Schonauer; and West Branch High School graduate Grace Heath, daughter of Darrin and Jody Heath.
The Salem Saxon Club is a fraternal benefit society and a branch of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons (ATS). In addition to the Salem Saxon Scholarships, the recipients of ATS scholarships were also recognized at the dinner. They are Thomas Swope and Madisyn Best who received ATS freshman academic scholarships and Ashleigh Best and Anna Murcko who received an ATS continuing education scholarship.
The Salem Saxon Scholarship Fund trustees are Sam McKinney, Art Maroscher, Barbara Spack, Carol Kuner and legal advisor Geoff Goll.
