Breakfast and Bikers set at Pioneer Village

EAST LIVERPOOL– Breakfast and Bikers will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at Pioneer Village at Beaver Creek State Park. The menu will include buttermilk and buckwheat pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and beverages. Cost is $6.

Craft Beer Tasting planned

EAST LIVERPOOL– A Craft Beer Tasting fundraiser will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pioneer Village at Beaver Creek State Park. The event will feature local breweries, food and fun. Cost is $35. For information call 330-853-9960.

Free mosquito dunks offered

LISBON–Columbiana County Health Department has free mosquito dunks available for the residents of Columbiana County. The mosquito dunks are a mosquito control product to help kill mosquito larvae before they can hatch into adult mosquitoes. Residents can stop in the office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday to inquire about the mosquito dunks. The Columbiana County Health Department is located at 7360 state Route 45. Raptor talk planned at Salem Library

SALEM– Josh Kuszmaul of Raptor Hallow Sanctuary of Salem will present a talk about raptors (birds that hunt and eat vertebrates) and introduce some of the rescued birds that live at Raptor Hallows at 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at Waterworth Memorial Park Pavilion #9. During this family-friendly program visitors will learn which species of birds are raptors, what their natural habitat is like and the reasons some birds need to live in captivity. Weather-permitting there may also be a demonstration of raptors in flight.

The program is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Registration is required and may be done online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or call the library at 330-332-0042 or the Salem Parks Department at 330-271-8013 for registration assistance.

Go Wild in the Park programs take place twice each month and are provided to the public through a partnership of Salem Parks and Recreation Department and Salem Public Library.

Wildlife Center topic at picnic

SALEM–The Salem Historical Society’s annual summer picnic will be held at 6 p.m. today at Centennial Park Pavilion #1. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and table service. Plan to arrive after 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. dinner followed by the program at 7 p.m.

The program will be an overview of the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center by volunteer Kathy Cattrell. The retired teacher from Crestview High School will speak about the history of the organization, upcoming programs and some of the displays and animals at the education center. Those unable to attend the dinner are welcome to attend the program.

Seats still open for trolley tour

SALEM–Seats are still available for Thursday’s Underground Railroad tour on the Quakertown Trolley scheduled for 10 a.m. Cost is $15 a person and a minimum of participants are necessary to conduct the tour.

Previous participants have found the tour very informative and were enlightened as to the plight of the escaping slaves as they sought freedom while traveling through Salem. If seats are still available on Thursday, walk ups are welcome before the 10 a.m. departure time at the Dale Shaffer Library 239 S. Lundy Ave. For reservations or further information, leave a message at 330-337-6733. The call will be returned.

Damascus community breakfast planned

DAMASCUS–Damascus United Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church will hold their monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Damascus church, 300 Valley Road. The breakfast features all-you-can-eat, made to order, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee. The suggested donation is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 10 years old. The breakfast proceeds will benefit the upcoming 2020 Summer Mission Trip.

Windsor House interviews set

CANFIELD– Windsor House Inc., local owners and operators of 12 nursing homes and five assisted living communities in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, is hosting open interviews for nurses and state tested nurse aides for all Windsor House locations from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Windsor House at Canfield, 6445 state Route 446.

In addition Windsor House will be raffling off many prizes including two tickets to see Pentatonix at the Canfield Fair. Fall bus trips scheduled

LEETONIA – Jesus the Key Ministries has three bus trips planned for this fall. First is the newest destination of Washington DC, Sept. 10 to 12. The group will visit the Memorials at the National Mall and tour the new Bible Museum. In October the group will be going to the Ark again, then to Amish Country. The group will visit the Creation Museum and Noah’s Ark on Oct. 1 and 2. There will also be a day trip to Sugarcreek (Amish Country) where the group will take in the show “Tis Christmas” on Oct. 24. Damascus Ruritan Antique Car Show set

DAMASCUS – The Damascus Ruritans will host their 7th Annual Antique Car Show from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Damascus Friends Church parking lot, 28857 Walnut St. (U.S. Route 62 and state Route 534). A food pantry donation of a canned or boxed good is being requested for entry.

The car show is for vehicles model year 1994 or older. There will be 100 dash plaques issued and 10 trophies awarded at 7 p.m., as well as door prizes. Food will be available including the famous Ruritan ox sandwiches.

The event, sponsored by Chevy All Stars and Stratton chevrolet, will be held rain or shine. For information call 330-423-9822.

Healthy Women Summer Series concludes

SALEM– Area women of all ages are invited to learn about important health strategies for staying well throughout their life stages at Salem Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) free Healthy Women Summer Series, which concludes at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22. The final program in the three-part series will focus on “Healthy Habits for Women,” with featured speakers:

— Brianne Bagwell, M.D., Family Medicine: “Aging & the Brain”

— Dominic Peters, M.D., Orthopaedic Surgery: “Joint Care & Osteoporosis”

— Susan Woods, M.D., Dermatology: “Healthy Skin Care”

Participants attending any one of the three sessions will be eligible to win a drawing for a free, 3-D mammogram, courtesy of Salem Radiologists Inc. and SRMC.

SRMC’s Healthy Women Summer Series features presentations by SRMC-affiliated physicians and health care professionals, with the purpose of providing current health information that is designed to address women’s unique health concerns.

Each session in the series will take place in SRMC’s Tower Conference Room, located on the hospital’s ground floor concourse. Doors will open at 6 p.m. so that attendees can view educational displays. The educational presentations will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer session. Light refreshments will also be served. Advance registration is required by calling SRMC’s Marketing Department at 330-332-7152.

Joshua Dixon class lists to be posted

COLUMBIANA– Class lists will be posted Friday for Joshua Dixon Elementary School.

Open house for students in pre-school to grade four will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 19. Students will meet teachers, see classrooms and may drop off school supplies at this time. Kindergarten parents will schedule their child’s KRA test, offered Aug. 20 through 23, during the open house.

The first day of school for grades one through four will be Aug. 21. The first day for pre-school and kindergarten will be Aug. 26.

Breakfast buffet offered in North Lima

NORTH LIMA– North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, will host a breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 31. The all-you-can-eat buffet is available for a donation and includes eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade pastries, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and mushrooms, coffee, orange juice and other beverages. Catholic theologian to speak

SALEM– Dr. Scott W. Hahn, a Catholic theologian, best-selling author of numerous books and world-renowned speaker, will be the guest speaker from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 935 E. State St. Participants will be given the opportunity to go deeper into the riches of the Catholic faith as Hahn presents dynamic scripture studies (talks) at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Formerly, Hahn was a Presbyterian minister who converted to Catholicism.

The schedule also includes a brief St. Paul Center Presentation at 10 a.m. Hahn’s books will be available for purchase.

A lunch will be served in Scullion Hall at St. Paul School following the program.

The event is free of charge, with no registration required.
