Outstanding Youth to be recognized at Canfield Fair
CANFIELD-The Outstanding Youth Award was established to provide an opportunity to recognize youth who are involved in one or more of the seven Junior Fair Youth Organizations – Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Future Farmers of America, Camp Fire USA, Farm Bureau, Grange and 4-H-and go above and beyond to serve their organization, Junior Fair and the community. Of those selected, two youth are selected as the overall outstanding youth – one boy and one girl. The final selection will be announced at 2 p.m. as the finale on Youth Day, Thursday, on the Concourse Stage.
Sydney Lewis is the daughter of Tom and Joleen Lewis and is a sophomore at Youngstown State University. Sydney is a member of the Blue Ribbon Wranglers 4-H Club and Country Kids and Kritters 4-H Club. She enjoys showing her rabbits and horses in 4-H. She is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. She was involved in NHS, as a Canfield High School cheerleader, and was a class officer at Canfield High School. She was a recipient of the Pop Shop Assistance Award, Darrel Bacon Memorial Scholarship, George Grim Memorial Scholarship and the Bryan Heffinger Memorial Scholarship in the spring of 2018. At YSU, she has founded Y-CAHT, an organization that fights human trafficking in our area. She is currently attending Youngstown State University studying Biology and hopes to become a physician.
Karlee Banks is the daughter of Ron and Kelly Banks from North Jackson. Karlee is a freshman at The Ohio State University – ATI campus. Karlee is a member of the Jackson Milton Livestock 4-H Club. She enjoys showing her market animals in 4-H. She is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. Karlee has been selected for the 2019 4-H Royal Court. In both her local 4-H Club and on Junior Fair Board, she has held many offices and served in leadership positions. She was a 4-H Camp Counselor in 2018. She was involved in NHS, as Western Reserve High School cheerleader, and was a class officer in the student council. She has been a volunteer for the Mill Creek MetroParks. She will be attending Ohio State Agriculture Technical Institute to study Livestock Production and Management.
Nicole D’Angelo is the daughter of Debbie and Greg D’Angelo and is a freshman at Youngstown State University. Nicole is an 11-year member of Country Kids and Kritter’s 4-H Club and Mahoning County Llama Club where she has assisted with booth decorating and the Darrel Bacon Memorial Gazebo upkeep and participated in Small Projects. Nicole has held several offices in her 4-h club. She is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board and is currently serving as News Reporter. She was a member of the high school band and basketball. She loves showing her rabbits and llama at the fair. Nicole will be pursuing her desire to become a teacher at the Youngstown State Univversity.
Emma Reph is the daughter of Robin and Stephen Reph from Berlin Center. She is a graduate from Western Reserve High School and plans to attend Eastern Gateway Community College to study Medical Office Management. She is a member of the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. She has participated in a variety of projects and has represented Mahoning County at the Ohio State Fair. Emma is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. Emma serves on the Mahoning County Food and Fashion Board, a Camp Counselor for 4-H Camp and an Ohio 4-H Event Assistant at the Ohio State Fair. Emma hopes to attend college to pursue a career in the medical or legal field.
Thomas Kemp is the son of Will and Kori Wagner and is a graduate of West Branch High School. Thomas has been involved in FFA for three years and is a member of the Village Varieties 4-H Club where he has served in several office positions. Thomas has been involved in West Branch Enviro Team, Soil Judging Team, and Livestock Judging Team. He is also serving as the 2017 Mahoning County Junior Fair Sheep Ambassador and is currently a Columbiana-Mahoning- Trumbull Beef Breeding Ambassador. Thomas plans to start a small feed lot and livestock operation in aspiring to one day owning his own farm where FFA and AG teachers can bring youth to learn more about farming. He will be attending The Ohio State University ATI campus this fall with a desire to study Agronimics and Crop & Soil Management.
Cheyenne Heffner is the daughter of James and Delilah Heffner and is a graduate of Springfield Local High School. She has been involved in 4-H for 10 years is a member of Springfield Booster Boys 4-H Club where she has served in many offices. Cheyenne has been selected for the 2019 4-H Royal Court. Cheyenne shows beef feeders and hogs at the fair and has taken hogs to state fair. She also does art and insect still projects. She was a 2016 representative as an Ohio State 4-H Ambassador and was on the 2017 State 4-H Leadership Council. She is a current Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull Cattleman’s Association Ambassador. She is also involved in Junior Leaders, Junior Fair Board, Carteens, Flagline and Track and Field. Cheyenne intends to pursue a degree in Animal Genetics and attend The Ohio State University ATI in Wooster.
Sam Kanagy is the son of David and Mikki Kanagy and is a junior at Mahoning County Career and Techinical Center from West Branch Schools. Sam is representing FFA on Outstanding Youth. He is a member of the Goshen Good Growers 4-H Club and has held many office positions. In FFA he has earned the Green Hand and his Chapter Degree. He shows Market Livestock at the Canfield Fair. Sam also volunteers at Bunker Hill Tractor Pulls and the Auburn Nursing Home. Sam’s goal is to own and manage his own farm and to study diesel mechanics.
Andrei Pagnotta is the son of Dean and Julie Pagnotta and is a sophomore at South Range High Shcool. In school, he is a member of the marching, concert and jazz band, Drama Club, National Speech and Debate Association, Track, Cross Country and Golf Team. Andrei is a four-year member of the Country Kids and Kritters 4-H Club. He has shown livestock animals and is currently focusing on small projects. He plans to pursue an education in Business and Foreign Relations, and continue to enjoy his love for music.
Noah Christoff is the son of Cindy Christoff and Holly Seimetz and is a junior at Mahoning County Career and Techinical Center. Noah is representing Boy Scouts on Outstanding Youth. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop #25. He has served in several leadership positions and is a Patrol Leader. As a Boy Scout he has given back to the community in over 100 hours of community service projects in Mill Creek Park, Camp Stambaugh, Canfield 4th of July Parade, Canfield Methodist Church and many more. He is currently a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board and Youngstown Tailwaggers. His goals are to continue his dedication to the Junior Fair Board and become a successful member of the community.
Will Bacho is the son of Bill and Kathy Bacho of Poland and is a sophomore at Poland Seminary School. Sam is representing Boy Scouts on Outstanding Youth. As a Boy Scout, he is a Patrol Leader and currently ranked as Star. He is a seven-year member of the Springfield Booster Boys 4-H Club. Will enjoys taking Market Livestock projects and Small Projects. He is also a member of the Bee Keeper Assocition and a successful Bee Keeper. Will has volunteered at Mill Creek Park. In school, will participates in Baseball, Football and also in Karate. He plans to further his education and become successful.
Maria Campean is the daughter of Cassandra and Tom Campean and is a sophomore at Youngstown State University. Maria is representing 4-H and is an eight-year member of the Pinelakers 4-H Club. Maria has served in many officer positions and shows various livestock animals in the Mahoning County Junior Fair. She is a member of the Junior Fair Board. She volunteers in the Junior Fair Pop Shop. She was one of the recipients of the 2018 Jim Baer Memorial Scholarship, Darrel Bacon Memorial Scholarship, George Grim Memorial Scholarship, and the Pop Shop Assistance Award. At YSU, she is a member of the Pre-Vet Club and the Biology Club. She was selected into the Youngstown State’s Emerging Leaders Program. She plans to graduate from Youngstown State University with a degree in Biological Science.
Josie Mellot is the daughter of Mandi and Roger Mellott of Columbiana and is a junior at West Branch Schools. Josie is representing 4-H on Outstanding Youth. She is a nine-year member of Goshen Good Growers. She has served in many offices in her 4-H club. She was an active member of FFA for one year. Josie shows Market Livestock at the fair. She is currently a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. In school, she is a involved in the Ruriteen program and enjoys volleyball. Josie plans on attending college to pursue a career in nursing.
Ashley James is the daughter of John and Diana James of Beloit and is a junior at West Branch Schools. Ashley is representing FFA on Outstanding Youth and is a member of the Capriculturist 4-H Club. She also serves as Kinder Goat Ambassador for the National Kinder Goat Association. Ashley loves to volunteer in the community to share her knowledge of rabbits and kinder goats. Ashley has also served in many offices and has taken several small projects earning the right to represent Mahoning County at the state fair. In FFA, she received her Green Hand Award. She is a current member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. Ashley is an avid member of the West Branch soccer team. Ashley plans to attend college and pursue a career in nursing.
Amber Corll is the daughter of Paul and Joanne Corll of Berlin Center. She is a sophomore at Western Reserve High School. Amber is a 12-year member of Grange where she has served as Princess and served as a representative to the State Grange Youth Committee. She is nine-year member of 4-H and is currently a member in the Capriculturists. Amber enjoys showing goats in the fair. Amber is a member of Junior Fair Board. She loves to volunteer to help in the community at her church and the through the Junior Fair programs. She has volunteered at Mill Creek Parks, Troop #71 Fish Fry and other various community projects. Amber’s goal is to attend college and pursue a career in nursing.
Sarah Delucia is the daughter of Suzie and Joe Delucia of New Middletown and is a junior at Springfield Local High School. Sarah is representing Girl Scouts on Outstanding Youth. She is a 12-year member of Girl Scout Troop #80691. Sarah has been selected for the 2019 4-H Royal Court. She has been a delegate to the Girl Scout Service Unit for the past two years and is in her Ambassador Level. She is involved in 4-H and a member of the Greenford Happy Helpers, Country Kids and Kritters, Pocket Pets, and Mahoning County Llama Club. She is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. In her various clubs, she has served in many leadership positions. She loves to volunteer in the community and has volunteered for such organizations such as Mahoning Valley Green Team, Sheperds of the Valley, Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary and many Veteran Groups. She has earned many awards with her rabbits, pocket pets and llamas at the county fair and represented our county at state fair in many small projects. She plans to attend college and to pursue a career highlighting her love for animals.
2018 MAHONING COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR OUTSTANDING YOUTH
James Moore is the son of James Moore and Mary Meloga of Canfield. He was a Boy Scout Representative on Outstanding Youth and very active in 4-H. James has earned his Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life Awards and is finishing his Eagle Scout Award. In 4-H, he has been involved in Small Projects as well as showing Market Animals as a member of the Springfield Booster Boys. He is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board and serves as President. James is a graduate of South Range High School and will be attending The Ohio State University pursuing a career in animal science.
Brittany Siembieda is the daughter of John and Mindy Siembieda and is a sophomore at Kent State University. Brittany is member of Millcreek My-T-Mites 4-H Club where she is the president and has been a member of the Capriculturists. She has shown rabbits, chickens and goats at the fair and has taken Veterinary Science, Art, and many shooting sports projects. Brittany is an active member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. She plans to pursue a degree in education and currently works at a local veterinary clinic.
