United FFA discusses T-shirts, upcoming fruit sale

HANOVERTON – The United FFA held its monthly meeting Sept. 9. In attendance, there were 35 chapter members and one guest. Officers gave monthly reports on the past month’s topics and activities. The chapter discussed getting FFA T-shirts along with officer T-shirts. In addition, the chapter decided to sponsor a United T-ball team this coming spring. Lastly, the chapter discussed to handle fruit through Blue Freedom for the annual fruit sale, which starts in October.

Evening R-Weigh group recognizes weight loss

SALEM – Evening R-Weigh group met Sept. 9 with the meeting being called to order by Ruth Miller. Birdie Reinhart led the group with the R-Weigh prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Janel Anderson picked the song “Music, Music, Music.” Ruth Miller prayed for family and friends. Patty Pim gave the treasurer’s report and told a joke.

There were 27 members that weighed in with a total of 10 pounds lost. Honorable mention in Group 1 were Rhonda Moffett and Lois Wood. Good Loser in Group 1 was Gina Zepernick. Honorable mention in Group 2 went to Chris Learn and Judy Smith.

Calorie Chart winners were Chris Learn, Gina Zepernick and Judy Smith. Goalie calorie chart winners were Sharon Bigalow and Eugenia Tullis. There were no winners in the regular Can Do Contest so it will be $8 next week. The winners in the Goalie Can Do contest were Lisa Smith and Janel Anderson. Lois Wood received money for losing over her birthday.

Ruth Miller spoke on some things to help with the pain of arthritis. “Foods that might help with joint pain are apricots, beans, sweet potatoes, olive oil and mushrooms. Another thing is exercise your hands by opening your hands and closing them. Move your fingers gently. Raise your arms over your head and stretch. To relieve brain fog, sniff peppermint. Laughter is the best medicine, it releases endorphins. They are the body’s natural painkiller.”

Peggy Kurtz inspiration was “If you really want to lose weight, you must be willing to change. Change is the essence of life. Everyone has the power to change and change is inevitable if you choose to lose weight. You need to be willing to surrender what you are for what you can become. Healthy is not skinny. Remember: I want to, I can, I will, it’s your choice.”

Jessie Rea made a poster for the picnic for everyone to sign. People are taking it home and writing on it. So far Rosemarie Martinez, Judy Smith and Joan Schafer have taken it home. Joan passed this on to Janel Anderson.

Holiday pay went to Lois Wood in Group 1, Chris Learn, Judy Smith and Gina Zepernick in Group 2. Goalies were Janel Anderson, Ruth Ann Hall, Ruth Miller, Rita Cecil, JoCarol Gray, Lisa Smith, Eugenia Tullis and Sharon Bigalow.

In the Plinko contest the winners were Chris Learn, Sharon Bigalow, JoCarol Gray, Lisa Smith, Eugenia Tullis, Rhonda Moffett, Lois Wood and Rita Cecil. They all won $1. Ruth Miller got $2 and Judy Smith and Janel Anderson got $3.

New members are welcome. Weigh ins are from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. with the meeting starting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday evenings at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue.

Weingart Cousins meet, encourage others to attend

SALEM–Weingart Cousins met recently with four attending. Anyone related is encouraged to attend the gatherings at Adele’s Restaurant. The next breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2.

VFW Post 5532 Auxiliary to host steak fry Sept. 21

WASHINGTONVILLE– The VFW Post 5532 Washingtonville Auxiliary Steakfry is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at the post home. Cost is $14 in advance and $15 at the door.
