Springfield Local teen named Mahoning County Teen Miss
Ruby Withers of Petersburg was recently awarded the title of Mahoning County Teen Miss United States Agriculture. Ruby is a fifth generation Milking Shorthorn breeder at Honey Creek Farms. She is currently a sophomore at Springfield Local High School. Ruby is a member of Mahoning County Dairy 4-H, Petersburg Presbyterian Church, and plays on the women’s basketball team at Springfield.
Ruby and the other contestants will travel from all over Ohio to Harrisburg, Pa. this weekend to compete for the honor to reign as Ohio Miss United States Agriculture Queen.
State Director Megan Keller said, “The idea behind the Miss United States Agriculture Pageant Program is to celebrate the agriculture industry and our local farmers all while promoting self-esteem, building strong leaders and awarding scholarships to encourage a continuous pursuit of education. As well as utilizing our vision: An advocacy program for women to teach and enhance the American Agriculture story.”

WB Area Ladies Ruritan holds meeting, plans events
NORTH GEORGETOWN–West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan met Sept. 17 at the First Brethren Church in North Georgetown.
President Bev Yaggi welcomed the group. Viola Blanchard led the group in the “Pledge of Allegiance” and singing “God Bless America.” Yaggi gave a prayer.
Sandy Bates read the minutes and Mary Belle Metzgar read the treasurer’s report. She reported that the group’s bake sales were a great success. The last bake sale workers were Robin Mayer, Blanchard and Metzgar.
Zone 6 dinner was Sept. 10 at Quaker Canyon. Mayer, Blanchard and Metzgar attended. The group voted to have John Biery Zone 6 Governor and Jason Pierce Asst. Zone 6 Governor. Zone 6 Steak Dinner will be Sept. 24 at The Goshen Center. Books for West Branch Elementary Schools will be ordered in October. All Zone 6 clubs will be participating.
In October the group is planning on installing a new member and vote on officers.
Nov. 9 will be Ruritan Ohio Fall convention at the First Friends Church. The group is planning on having something for the auction.
Mayer and Joann are working on a Facebook account. Bibs and walker bags were sent to the Robert Bycroft School.
Metzgar and Blanchard served dessert.
The next board meeting is Oct. 14 and the general meeting is Oct. 21.
