Staff Reports

LEETONIA–The Joe Williams American Legion Post 131 in Leetonia will celebrate its 100th anniversary from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the post home, 540 E. Main St.

The event will feature certificates presented to the descendants of charter members by state Senator Michael Rulli and state Rep. Tim Ginter, as well as family members of Joe Williams. There will also be food and beverages.

The public is welcome to attend.

According to Commander Bill Kegelmyer, the original members of the American Legion met in the Mayor’s office to sign the charter, but it is unknown where they originally met. He said Joe Williams was killed in France in 1917 and is buried at Oakdale Cemetery.
