Community breakfast slated Saturday in Damascus

DAMASCUS–Damascus United Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church will hold their monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Damascus church, 300 Valley Road. The breakfast features all-you-can-eat, made-to-order, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee. The suggested donation is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 10 years old. The Breakfast is being held as always at the Damascus church, located at 300 Valley Road in Damascus. The breakfast proceeds will benefit the upcoming 2020 Summer Mission Trip to work with Jackson Area Ministries in Jackson, OHIO. Remember we have this Breakfast every month on the Third Saturday all year.

Go Wild in the Park to feature local Civil War history

SALEM–The program “The History of Morgan’s Raid” will be presented by local historian, John Barnett, at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Quaker Room of Salem Public Library. The program, arranged through a partnership of Salem Parks and Recreation and Salem Public Library, is open to the public and free of cost to attend.

Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his cavalry of approximately 2,000 traveled through Jefferson County, Ohio and into Columbiana County intending to out-maneuver Union troops and cross the Ohio River. All did not go according to his plan.

Attend the presentation to hear the exciting details as told by Mr. Barnett of the confrontation between the two armies and the eventual outcome.

Two “Go Wild in the Park” programs/events are planned each month to provide the public with a variety of educational and entertaining experiences.

PowerPoint, Publisher class planned at Salem library

SALEM– “Getting the Most from PowerPoint and Publisher” technology class will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Quaker Room of Salem Public Library. Technology instructor Stephanie Peterson will lead the class and provide basic instruction in the use of these two programs. It is recommended that those attending bring a device to the class to practice on.

This class is open to the public and free of cost to attend. The class is provided through a Guiding Ohio Online grant made by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio.

A Little Live Music to feature SassaBrass Quintet

SALEM– SassaBrass Quintet will play musical selections in honor of Veteran’s Day at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Adult Reading Room of Salem Public Library. Musicians in the group are Sherry Ayers, French horn; John Berthold, trombone; Mark Galpin, trumpet; Kirk Hofmeister, tuba; and Gary Kekel, trumpet; plus substitute trumpet player for half the concert, Bill Young.

The group’s musical repertoire includes light classical, patriotic, pop and jazz music.

No registration is required to attend. The program is open to the public and free of cost to enjoy.

North Lima church to host breakfast buffet Nov. 30

NORTH LIMA–North Lima Mennonite Church, 90 Mennonite Drive, will hold a breakfast buffet from 7 to 10 a.m. Nov. 30. The all-you-can-eat breakfast or brunch for a donation. Items on the buffet will include eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, potatoes, homemade pastries, sausage gravy and biscuits, peppers and mushrooms, coffee, orange juice and other beverages. November Messy Church to celebrate thankfulness

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP– East Goshen Friends Church, 16800 state Route 165, Beloit, will host Messy Church from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. This month’s event, Thanks ‘n All, features family fun and a free meal including creating, learning and celebrating together with a focus on thankfulness.

Messy Church is an all-age worship experience that explores God’s love in an accessible way.

Damascus Historical Society to hold pot luck dinner

DAMASCUS– The Damascus Area Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at The Pearce House, 28959 Salem-Alliance Road, for Pot Luck Fellowship. Members are to bring their own table service. Business meeting to follow.
