Salem Public Library Brain Games Dec. 19
SALEM–Salem Public Library’s Brain Games for Seniors is set for 2 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 19 in the Quaker Room. Lately, the group has been playing a fun card game called “Play Nine,” and the members have challenged their spelling ability with “Boggle.” There is also a variety of board games, word games and coloring and puzzle books. The group meets the third Thursday of each month. Registration is not required to participate and there is no cost involved.
Damascus Light Up
DAMASCUS–The Light Up Damascus ceremony has been changed to 5 p.m. with the Brass Choir at 5:30 p.m. and the Young & Alive at 6:15 p.m. The ceremony is part of the communitywide event Saturday and will be held in the Damascus Friends Church north parking lot.
First Presbyterian Church to host Advent service
SALEM– The First Presbyterian Church of Salem will present “A Service of Lessons and Carols,” featuring the music of John Rutter, during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday. The Lessons and Carols service is a collection of Advent and Christmas carols, based on the traditional English service of Lessons and Carols, presented by the Haviland Choir. The choir will be accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, including flutes, oboe, clarinets, trumpets, horns, trombones, tuba, piano and percussion. Nancy McNeal, church organist, will accompany the choir. Cheryl and Gary Kekel will perform “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” during the service. Director of Music at First Presbyterian is John Krauss. This special service is open to the general public.
