West Branch BOE to meet Thursday
BELOIT– The West Branch school board will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the middle school cafeteria.
Parent Orientation Meeting set at United
HANOVERTON– Parents of children who will be 5 before Aug. 1 and live in the United Local School District or are considering open enrollment are invited to attend a Parent Orientation Meeting at 6 p.m. March 16 in the elementary cafeteria.
At the meeting, registration packets will be handed out and other information will be shared to help with enrolling new kindergarteners and getting them off to a successful start.
Also at the meeting, appointments will be scheduled for March 24, 25 or 26 when packets can be returned and students will be screened. Documents that will need to be gathered are the child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, custody documents (if applicable), a photo I.D. and two proofs of residency. These will be presented along with the completed registration packet on the scheduled screening date.
Those planning to open enroll a child can pick up an open enrollment form at the parent meeting, in addition to the registration packet. Open enrolling families will need to register with their home school district first, and then they may apply with United Local.

Mahjong players or wannabes invited to library
SALEM–Salem Public Library will offer beginner and intermediate players the opportunity to enjoy playing Mahjong at 2 p.m. Tuesdays March 17 through May 5 in the library’s Quaker Room.
Mahjong, a tile-based game that began in China during the Qing Dynasty, has spread throughout the world and is a popular pastime. It is commonly played by four players. Game boards and tiles will be provided as well as instructions for how to play.
Registration is not required to participate. Adults interested in playing Mahjong are encouraged to participate in this activity that is open to the public and free of any cost. For more information call the library at 330-332-0042.
Butler trustess move meeting to Friday
BUTLER TOWNSHIP–Township trustees have moved their regular meeting to 7 p.m. Friday at the township building.
Southern Local BOE sets special meeting tonight
SALINEVILLE– The Southern Local school board will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the administrative office to discuss personnel matters, with no action to be taken.
South Range to accept open enrollment applications
BEAVER TOWNSHIP–The South Range Local School District will soon be accepting Open Enrollment Applications for the 2020-2021 school year. Students must reside in an Ohio school district and be in grades kindergarten through 12 for the 2020-2021 school year. Applications can be picked up at the Board of Education Office at 11375 Columbiana Canfield Road, Canfield.
Completed applications can be submitted in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the Board of Education Office beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, March 2 and thereafter from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until the submission period closes at 4 p.m.Friday, April 3.
