Columbiana Girl Scouts host Powderpuff Derby
COLUMBIANA – Girl Scout Troop 80777 of Columbiana hosted the annual Powderpuff Derby at Crestview High School. This year 15 girls participated in the event and four parents/siblings participated in the secondary competition designed for them. The girls from all over Columbiana County follow the same rules and regulations as the Cub Scouts do for their Pinewood Derby.
Placing first overall was Vivienne Oliver, second was Lauren Smith, and in third place overall Hadley Neiheisel. Earning first place in the parent/sibling race was Brian Ingledue. Additional awards presented were Most Imaginative, Sophia Bender; Most Realistic, Rosario Pantoja; Most Unique, Lauren Smith; Best Girl Scout Theme, Briana Martin; and Best of Show was awarded to Yesenia Pantoja.
The annual event is run by Boy Scout Troop 22 out of New Waterford. The girls race three times, earn a fun patch and receive a keepsake pit pass from the evening. Girl Scout Leader and Organizer of the Powder Puff Derby, Crystal Siembida Boggs, stated “Every year the girls improve their car designs and they also get very creative in their car designs. This year we had an ice cream sandwich as one of the designs!”
The event is held on an annual basis and coincides with the Cub Scout District Pinewood Derby.
