COLUMBIANA — On behalf of the Restoration and Beautification (R and B) Committee of Columbiana, Pat Tingle recently presented a signed and framed piece of artwork to Mary Louise Dicken, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township.

The artwork, a mural depicting the history of Columbiana in photographs from 1805 to the present day, is a digitized version of the original giant painting created by nationally-recognized artist Ray Simon, now mounted on the wall in Main Street Common in the downtown area of the city.

“The Historical Society and member, Beverly Richardson, were instrumental in helping to bring this piece of artwork to life and the R and B Committee wanted to show our appreciation to them for their valuable assistance in researching the past and present photos for the artist,” Tingle said.

Steve and Kathy Blakeman, owners of Valley Office Solutions and Peak I.T., sponsored the project to showcase Columbiana’s rich history and to provide the opportunity for replicas of the mural to be made and sold to help raise funding for the R & B Committee’s capital project to renovate the Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park.

“It’s a wonderful way to own original artwork that captures the heart of our hometown’s history,” Tingle said, “while also donating to our efforts to bring our decades-old park into the 21st century.”

Signed and unsigned 7.5 ” x 28″ prints, as well as larger signed and numbered versions, are available and can be purchased online at restorecolumbiana.com, the Restoration and Beautification Committee’s website, with all proceeds going to the park restoration project.
