MC Jr. Fair Board meets virtually
BERLIN CENTER – The Mahoning County Junior Fair Board met online through Zoom May 26. The members discussed plans for the Canfield Fair, scholarship opportunities, and using a short video of members working on their projects to encourage others. Graduating Seniors were encouraged to email a photo and a history of their 4-H, Grange or FFA career to Junior Fair Manager Kim Moff at www.mcjrfair.com by the end of June.
Advisor William Wainio reported that the Junior Fair Board made over $500 from a recent flower fundraiser. The board plans to meet in person at 7 p.m.Thursday, June 18 on the Canfield Fairgrounds for its next meeting.
SCF scholarship deadline approaching
SALEM– Current college students are reminded they can download the Salem Community Foundation scholarship application via the scholarship link on the Foundation’s website, www.salemcommunityfoundation.org.
Consideration will be given to students on the basis of class level (senior, junior and sophomore) and financial need. Applicants must be a resident of Salem City or Perry Township.
All applications must be received in the Salem Community Foundation’s office by Wednesday, June 3 to be considered for an award.
St. Paul Church to sponsor Banquet
SALEM– St. Paul Church will sponsor the Banquet in Salem (drive up only) from 5 to 7 p.m. (or until food runs out) at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include meatloaf, potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and pudding. For information contact Patty Colian at 330-831-2169.
United school board to meet June 16
HANOVERTON– The United Local school board will hold its regular meeting at 4 p.m. June 16 via Zoom (https://zoom.us/j/93224516649).
Salem Preservation Board to meet
SALEM– The Salem Preservation Board will meet (en masque) at 7 p.m. June 4 at the Ruth Smucker House, 271 S. Broadway Ave.
MCESC offering senior giveaway
CANFIELD– The Mahoning County Educational Service Center Career Counselors will be hosting a Senior Giveaway June 15 through 17 using funds provided through a grant. The Senior Giveaway is for 2020 Graduates from Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Portage counties. This event will be similar to the food drives that school districts have been holding throughout the pandemic.
When students arrive at their Senior Giveaway location, they will remain in their cars. Career Counselors will be located at different stations and will fill the car with items as they move through the distribution line. These items will assist graduates continuing their education or a career after graduation.
Senior Giveaways will take place at three locations — one location per day.
Monday, June 15 – Mahoning County ESC – 10 a.m. to noon
Tuesday, June 16 – Columbiana High School – 10 a.m. to noon
Wednesday, June 17 – Warren G. Harding High School – 10 a.m. to noon
There will be only one giveaway per graduating high school student. The student must be present during pick up to receive the gift package. Giveaways are available on a first come, first serve basis.
