Local students recognized by Miami University
OXFORD, Ohio– Miami University students who are ranked in the top 20 percent of undergraduate students within each division for second semester 2019-20 have been named to the dean’s list recognizing academic excellence.
Local students include Logan Kronstain of Columbiana and Kole Zellers of Salem.
Miguel de Peralta of Alliance was named to the Miami University spring 2019-20 president’s list. He is majoring in Kinesiology.

Area students earn dean’s list at Westminster College
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.– Westminster College recently named 431 students to the spring 2020 dean’s list. The Westminster College Dean’s List recognizes students who achieved a 3.6 grade point average or higher.
The following local students made the list:
Avery Andric of Lisbon is majoring in computer information systems.
Madison Brown of Lisbon is majoring in psychology.
Desirea Gamble of Rogers is majoring in music.
Jon Gerace of Salem is majoring in early childhood and special education.
Camden Hergenrother of Salem is majoring in criminal justice studies and psychology.
Lauren Millhorn of Rogers is majoring in financial economics and accounting.
Brock Powell of Salem is majoring in early childhood and special education.
Lauryn Todd of Lisbon is majoring in accounting and financial Economics.
Kyle Youmans of Sebring is majoring in music education.
Hoffman participates in symposium at Findlay
FINDLAY, Ohio– Paige Hoffman, of Alliance recently participated in the University of Findlay’s annual Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity.
Hoffman presented “Antigenotoxic Effects of Epigallocatechin-3- Gallate (Egcg) on Bleomycin In Vitro Induced DNA Damage in Human Lymphocytes.”
Undergraduate and graduate students were given the opportunity to virtually share their research, creativity and professional learning experiences with the University and community, with many students receiving honors at the same time.

Columbiana American Legion recognizes delegates
COLUMBIANA — Benjamin Firestone Unit 290 American Legion Auxiliary in Columbiana announced the six students that were selected as Buckeye Girls State delegates.
Unfortunately, the week-long program that was to be held at Mount Union University June 14-20 was canceled due to COVID-19 precautions. However, these students should still be recognized for their achievements and academic excellence.
Local delegates were: Emily Starkey from Columbiana High School, Makayla Osborn from Heartland Christian, Hailey Lewis, Abby Susak and Magda Sutherland from South Range and Chelby Trump from Crestview.
Continuing to provide financial assistance this year to the Columbiana Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary in sponsoring delegates was the Columbiana Area Business and Professional Women, Greenford Ruritan Club, New Waterford Lions, East Palestine Eagles, Melissa Urmson and Vaughn Musser.
BGS is a program of mock government at the state, county and city levels. The main objective of the program is to train young women, who have completed their junior years in High School, in the duties, rights and privileges of citizenship by providing the attendee the opportunity to actively participate in a democratic form of government.
