Mahoning County ESC launches virtual academy

CANFIELD– The Mahoning County Educational Service Center is launching the Valley Virtual Remote Learning Academy (VV), an online community school.

Valley Virtual will provide quality, educational opportunities that align to state standards for students who benefit from learning in a non-traditional setting.

“Valley Virtual Remote Learning Academy is like no other. We provide the highest quality remote instruction that is supported by licensed, local teachers, and our curriculum adjusts to meet the needs of all learners,” said Traci Hostetler, Superintendent of the MCESC.

VV will give students the opportunity to work at their own pace. This remote learning option provides remediation, intervention, or enrichment to all students. Valley Virtual students are able to graduate utilizing multiple pathways or through alternative routes. The curriculum covers all core subjects in grades 6-12 as well as a variety of high school electives. Credit recovery courses are also available.

Learning can be done online from any location, including the school’s computer lab, which is located in Canfield (inside the MCESC) and will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Laptops and chargers will be provided to enrolled students.

“We put students first. Students have the option to work independently from home, schedule one-on-one virtual meetings with teachers, or they can opt to work face-to-face at the Mahoning County Educational Service Center with our dedicated team,” said Hostetler.

For information or to enroll, contact Valley Virtual Principal Susan Pavalko by phone at 330-533-8755, ext. 1181 or by email at S.Pavalko@MahoningESC.org.
