Damascus Garden Club reviews old and new business at July meeting
DAMASCUS-The Damascus Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of Ohio Inc., held its July meeting at the Damascus Community Park July 9. Nine members responded to the roll call question, and 1st Vice-President Val Knoedler opened the meeting with greetings to those present and get-well wishes to the members who are missed. The secretary gave the minutes from the March meeting and the treasurer reported on the status of the June treasury balance. Correspondence included a thank-you from Shirley Batista, president of Garden Club of Ohio Inc. in recognition of a donation to the club’s scholarship fund. The Damascus Community Park thanked the club for its donation of candy originally designated for the park’s Easter egg hunt. Due to the cancellation of the hunt for this year, it was noted that the candy was donated to the West Branch Lunch Program for needy families.
Under old business, the club will hold its Christmas decoration sale on Sept. 18 and 19. The sale will be held at Dave Peterson’s home and members may start bringing items they wish to donate to his home at the end of August. The set-up day for the sale will be on Thursday starting at 8 a.m. Members were asked to sign-up for a week of watering the post office garden. Those members not present at the meeting should call Val Knoedler to be assigned a time.
Under new business, Marcia Spack volunteered to supply the bud vases for the July community blood drive.
Knoedler concluded the meeting, and along with Lee Kuentz, presented a program about “Being a Garden Fashionista.”
The club will meet on its scheduled August date, but the trip scheduled for Quail Hollow has been cancelled. A new meeting place will be announced.
