Junior fair auction to be streamed

Although the county fair has been canceled, the fair board will still go ahead with the market project junior fair. Each year, the junior fair participants offer their animals to the public at the junior fair livestock sales. Because of the virus, a livestream-simulcast auction will take place in an attempt to eliminate a large in-person crowd by allowing buyers to bid online. Participants’ animals will be housed at the fairgrounds but will not be in the sale ring with them during the auction. However, the participants will be holding a photo of their project. For anyone attending in person, the livestock sales will be held at the Coliseum, and the sale order will be market goat, market lamb, market hog, market rabbit, market poultry, market turkey, market dairy beef feeders and market beef /steer. The sales will run consecutively until the end. Those attending in person must go to the livestock sales office and provide processor information and payment. The payment for a purchase must be made the day of the sale unless prior arrangements have been made. The link to the online auction site is posted on the county fair website at www.columbianacountyfair.org. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 8. The junior fair will also hold harness racing on Aug. 3 and 4. The Columbiana County Agricultural Society received $3,500 from the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association for hosting the races.
