Surgeon joins DRMC staff

SALEM–Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is announcing the addition of general surgeon Shawn C. Clark, D.O., to its medical staff.

As of Aug. 3, Clark will join William Lee, M.D., FACS, and I. Darrell Pugh, D.O., at Salem General Surgery, 2094 E. State St., Suite A, in Salem.

Clark will perform advanced surgical procedures at SRMC including laparoscopic surgeries, such as hernia repair and gallbladder removal. In addition, he will provide upper endoscopy and colonoscopy services to examine and diagnose conditions in the digestive tract. An upper endoscopy is performed using a special endoscope or tube inserted through the mouth to visualize the esophagus, stomach and upper part of the small intestine. A colonoscopy is performed using an endoscope inserted through the rectum to visualize the large intestine.

“I am looking forward to providing a full range of advanced surgical procedures, including endoscopy services, to meet the needs of our local communities,” he said.

Clark earned his B.S. degree in Biology from The Ohio State University, followed by a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed his residency training in General Surgery at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, prior to joining Salem General Surgery. Dr. Clark is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
