Food Bank accepting livestock from 4-H Junior Fair auctions

YOUNGSTOWN — Individuals and businesses will have the opportunity to donate their purchases at the Canfield Fair Livestock Auction/Sales Thursday and Friday evenings in the new Canfield Fair Event Center to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for distribution to hungry families in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.

Those wishing to participate in person must enter the fairgrounds through Gate G. Bids may also be cast online at https://canfieldfair.hibid.com. Call Douglas Martig of the Mahoning County Livestock Committee at 330-720-3793 to be a donor to the project or for information and assistance with the registration process.

Livestock available to purchase for donation to the Food Bank include Market Beef, Hogs, Poultry-Broilers, Turkeys, Goats and Lambs.

Auction / Sale Thursday, Sept. 3

5:30 p.m. – Goat Milk Fudge, Market Rabbits and Market Goats

7 p.m. – Market Lambs, Carcass Lambs and Market Hogs

Auction/ Sale Friday, Sept. 4

5:30 p.m. – Market Poultry – Broilers, Turkeys and Ducks

7 p.m. – Market Beef and Market Feeders

Livestock purchased to be donated to the Food Bank will be processed by Winona Frozen Foods and Lehman Poultry. Processing fees will be added to the purchase price (market beef will be 60 cents per pound; hogs will be 60 cents per pound; lambs and goats will be $100 each; broilers $6; ducks $6 and turkeys $16). MasterCard, Visa, personal check and cash will be accepted. Price subject to change without notice.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, a member of Feeding America, assists 150 hunger-relief programs in the Tri-County area. These include church pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, shelters for battered women, and after-school programs. In 2019, the Food Bank distributed 11 million pounds of food, including more than 3.5 million pounds of produce. Bake sale to fund scholarships

WELLSVILLE –The Southern Ruritans will hold a bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hillcrest flea market, located at 1142 Hillcrest Road (SR 45) 1.3 miles outside of Wellsville. All proceeds will go to high school scholarships.

Sale set at New Garden church

NEW GARDEN — The New Garden United Methodist Church, 7165 state Route, will be hosting a large rummage sale Sept. 17-19. Times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. At the door, people for $5 will get a large bag to fill. There will be special prices tables and outdoor shopping weather permitting. Masks and social distancing will be required. There may be a short wait due to limited access. There will not be a lunch or bake sale.

Mill Creek seeks bids for farm operation

CANFIELD– Mill Creek MetroParks is now accepting proposals for farming operations at the MetroParks Farm. Proposals are due by noon Monday, Sept. 28. Copies of the required lease agreement forms can be acquired by contacting Executive Director Aaron Young at 330-702-3000 or aaron@millcreekmetroparks.org. Mill Creek MetroParks reserves the right to waive any and all informalities as part of the Farm Lease Proposal Review as the anticipated value does not fall under the parameters of the Ohio Revised Code competitive bidding requirements.
