Walk-in mammograms available at SRMC Imaging Center at Firestone Farms
COLUMBIANA – Walk-in screening mammograms are now available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Salem Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) Imaging Center located at Firestone Farms TownCenter in Columbiana. No appointments are required, which means that patients can walk-in for a screening mammogram during these hours with little to no waiting. A prior doctor’s order for the exam is not needed and financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
Highest Quality Available
Three- dimensional (3-D) mammograms provide sharper images, leading to better and earlier detection of breast abnormalities. The 3-D mammogram technology at both the Firestone location and SRMC’s main campus is accredited by the American College of Radiology, which is the gold standard for facilities providing the highest level of image quality and safety.
According to Peter Apicella, M.D., SRMC Chief Radiologist, “3-D mammography can detect up to 40% more invasive cancers than a traditional mammogram. In addition, the overall radiation dose of the 3-D examination is 30% less.”
“SRMC’s 3-D units feature the widest-angled acquisition method, which provides the greatest depth resolution and clarity of images, unlike other older 3-D mammogram equipment. This level of detail greatly enhances the ability to quickly and more accurately identify early cancers, especially in women with dense breasts and fibrocystic breast disease, where tumors are more difficult to find.”
For those who need further treatment, SRMC’s breast imaging team works in tandem with the specially trained physicians at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center (UHSCC) at SRMC to offer comprehensive care and the latest advancements for helping patients overcome breast cancer and other breast conditions.
