VFW Aux. selling salads
WASHINGTONVILLE– VFW Post 5532 Auxiliary, 575 S. County Road, will hold its annual Steak or Chicken Salad sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or sold out Saturday, Jan. 16. Salads include all fresh ingredients and fresh cut fries, plus choice of dressing and a roll. Cost is $10. Order to pick up through drive by at 330-427-2533.
Church offers rigatoni dinner
LISBON– The New Lisbon Presbyterian Church will hold a drive-thru rigatoni dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The meal also includes salad and cake for $8. Pickup times are 4-5 p.m. Orders must be made by noon on Jan. 15; call the church office at 424-5107.
Sloppy joes at Banquet
SALEM– Pat Riley will sponsor the drive thru Banquet in Salem in memory of Randy Riley from 5 p.m. until food is gone (no later than 7 p.m.) Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. Meals are limited to one per occupant in a vehicle and include sloppy joes, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and cookies. Shop open by appointment
SALEM–The Salem Historical Society Gift Shop, 239 S. Lundy Ave., will be open by appointment. The shop has several Christmas items and are well-stocked with books by Dale Shaffer and other local authors, sound tracks, City Directories, Salem High School annuals, table runner of Salem’s school buildings, Columbiana County quilt, materials on Underground Railroad, souvenirs and books of the 1906, 1956, 2006 Salem anniversaries and 1st Day Covers from Salem’s Bicentennial postmarked 2006. New items are a hand-thrown Salem glazed pottery jar made in the USA and the 2021 calendar, featuring items in the museum’s toy room.
Visitors will receive a 100 page SPIRIT OF SALEM ’76’ – Bicentennial Edition which contains events of Salem’s History during the visit. Persons attending are required to wear a face mask.

A Little Loves and some soup
SALEM– The Salem Nazarene Center, 1431 N. Ellsworth, will host a carryout soup sale from 4-6 p.m. (or gone) on Wednesday, Jan. 20. A quart of chili or potato soup will be available for $7. To order in advance, call 234-575-7002. All proceeds benefit the Little Loves Learning Center.
EGCC earns award
COLUMBUS – Eastern Gateway Community College has earned the Ohio Treasurer’s Compass Award for January.
Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague announced honorees for the month Friday. The monthly recognition program commends organizations, programs, and individuals across the state who are working to guide Ohioans toward financial literacy and empowerment.
A fast-growing educational center, Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) offers a no-cost education to qualifying local students. Through their Career Development Center, EGCC works to equip students with the tools needed to make informed decisions about their degree and career options, as well as education on topics such as creating a resume and interviewing for a job. Additionally, EGCC focuses on building relationships with employers at the local, regional, and national levels to expose students to a wide variety of career and professional pathways.
“With Ohio’s economy and workforce rapidly changing to meet the demands of the future, the importance of financial literacy education for our state’s young people cannot be understated,” said Sprague. “The Compass Award program recognizes the people and organizations creating comprehensive and innovative methods for equipping the next generation with the personal finance skills that will put them on the path to success.”
