Program on 1850 Ohio Women’s Convention
SALEM — The Salem Historical Society will host its third online program today, featuring the 1850 Ohio Women’s Convention. The program is available on the historical society’s group Facebook page at 7 p.m.
Presented by Virginia Maria Grilli, the program will offer an insight into the setting and conditions that fueled the early drive for women’s suffrage, perspective of Quaker women and those who shared their views and an overview of resolutions that were developed, adopted and put forth to change the Ohio Constitution in 1850.
Grilli currently serves as president of the Salem Historical Society, board member and project chair for Salem Preservation, and chair of the City of Salem’s Design Review Board. She conducts research on local women, suffrage, abolition, architecture, industry, and the arts. She is a docent for museum, walking and trolley tours on related subjects.
Legislative Brunch set via Zoom
YOUNGSTOWN — The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown will host their Annual Legislative Brunch virtually from 11 a.m. to noon Jan. 23. The brunch provides an opportunity to hear from legislators about their priorities for 2021 and how their work will impact the Mahoning Valley, including U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, and state Rep. Michelle Lepore-Hagan.
The event is free, but advance registration is requested, which can be completed online at legislativebrunch.eventbrite.com. The event and registration information can also be found on the organization’s Facebook page. A Zoom link will be sent out to anyone who registers.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy.
Women Retirees of YSU to Offer Scholarship
YOUNGSTOWN — The scholarship committee of the Women Retirees of Youngstown State University is accepting applications through March 1, 2021.
The scholarship is awarded to a full-time, junior female student who maintains a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient must be a U.S. Citizen and be enrolled in a degree-seeking program.
Information about the scholarship is available at www.ysu.edu/finaid/scholarships. Application forms may be printed from the website or picked up at the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship located on the second floor of Meshel Hall at YSU.
