Classic car show planned
Washingtonville VFW Post 5532, 575 S. County Road, will hold a classic car show from noon to 4 p.m. July 31. Registration begins at 11 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee and the first 50 entries will receive a dash plaque. Trophies will be awarded. The event will also feature music, food and refreshments, a 50/50 drawing and fun for the whole family. For information call 330-427-2533.
Stan Hywett program slated
Stan Hywett Hall Curator Julie Frey will share stories about the mansion, the Sieberlings who built the building and how the owners and employees manage the estate at a program and luncheon to benefit the Salem Women’s Federation and the Victorian Smucker Home in Salem at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Salem Presbyterian Church, 436 E Second St. Cost is $20. For reservations call 234-567-3098. Stan Hywett Hall was built by F. A. Sieberling, with his brother at his side. Sieberling founded the Sieberling Rubber company and later the Good Year Tire and Rubber company. Built between 1912 and 1915, Stan Hywett Hall is considered one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in America, with 65 rooms, 23 bathrooms, 18 bedrooms, five of which are guest rooms, and 23 fireplaces.
PERI to reconvene Aug. 10
The Mahoning County Chapter 18 Public Employee Retirees (P.E.R.I.) will reconvene following the pandemic at noon Aug. 10 at the Avion Banquet Center, 2177 Western Reserve Road. Lunch is $15 and include chicken francaise, oven browned potatoes, vegetable medley, garden salad, rolls and butter, beverages and hot fudge sundae. There will also be a door prize and 50/50 raffle. Rodman to host ‘Clue’ event
Teens ages 12 through 18 will have an opportunity to play detective at Rodman Public Library from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Based on the classic board game Clue that was later turned into a feature film, participants will visit various rooms inside the library where staff members will be playing the role of one of the iconic Clue characters. The teens will solve puzzles in order to receive clues that will lead them to the identity of the murderer. Registration is required at rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup. Open house, career fair set
MCCTC Adult Career Center on Palmyra Road in Canfield will hold a Fall Enrollment Open House and Career Fair from 9 to 11 a.m. July 28. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from MCCTC Adult Career Center, OhioMeansJobs, Mahoning and Columbiana Training Association, Greenwood Chevrolet Austintown, Akron Children’s Hospital, One Health Ohio at Youngstown, Salem Regional Medical Center, Steward Health – Sharon Regional Medical Center, NOMS, Boardman/Columbiana Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, Meridian Healthcare, Windsor House and Ashtabula County Medical Center. Campus tours will take place anytime during the event. Prospective students can meet with student services, find out more about potential funding sources to help pay for education and meet with local companies that are currently hiring. In addition, there will be a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) informational session starting promptly at 10 a.m. The school will be open and the public is invited to explore career training programs that begin Fall 2021 including: Welding, Automotive Technology, Medical Assistant, Medical Office Specialist, EMT or Firefighter I and II.
