Fair districts program in Canfield

The Canfield Library will host the program “Fair Districts – Making Democracy Work for the People” from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Monday. In this nonpartisan presentation of the new rules for redrawing Ohio voting districts, Kathleen Chaffee Gaige, Chair, Voter Services Committee, LWVGY will discuss reforms passed by Ohio voters. All 50 states are redrawing their voting districts in 2021. The Voters of Ohio have passed reforms to curb partisan “gerrymandering,” which is establishing districts that are intended to give one political party an advantage over others. This leads to politicians “picking their voters” rather than the other way around. This presentation will review the new rules and provide information on how to advocate with our elected officials to ensure the reforms passed by Ohio voters are implemented as intended. This program is presented in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Registration is required at libraryvisit.org.
