Underground RR trolley tours set

The Salem Historical Society is offering Underground Railroad tours on the Quakertown Trolley at 10 a.m. Nov. 8th and 2 p.m. Nov. 13. All riders are requested to wear a mask. The docent takes passengers back in time to the late 1850s. Following the sharing of many stories, the travelers will return to the 21st century with a better understanding of the plight of slaves, the working of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement that flourished in Salem prior to the Civil War. Since the homes are private and entrance not possible, flashed on a screen inside the trolley will be slides to show pictures of the insides of the homes, Underground Railroad hiding places, and several abolitionists who lived in or visited them. The slides will also help clarify the historical information presented during the program. The tour will last approximately an hour and half with loading at 239 S. Lundy St. and a minimum of 15 is necessary. The Gift Shop will be open before or after the tour. Call 330-337-6733 to reserve seats. The call will be returned.
