United HS Class of 1969

The United High School Class of 1969 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at Mark’s Landing. Any classmembers who have not responded to the social media announcement should call 330-853-7441 to confirm their reservation.

St. Patrick Church Food Pantry

St. Patrick Church Food Pantry, 167 W. Main St., Leetonia, will hold its monthly drive thru food distribution from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday for Leetonia School District residents. Have photo ID and trunk clear for groceries.

Zion Hill Church 150 years event

Zion Hill Church in Columbiana is celebrating 150 years with a weekend of speakers, games and food at 6 p.m. Aug. 26, 4 p.m. Aug. 27 and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28. Bring a lawn chair for some good old-fashioned preaching, food, games and fellowship. For information see the calendar at zionhillcob.org.

WB Athletic Boosters bingo

West Branch Athletic Boosters bingo will be held today at the booster hall, 26701 U.S. Route 62, Beloit. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., early tickets called at 6 p.m. and Jumpin’ Jack (55 numbers for $1,500) called at 6:45 p.m. Wildball jackpot starts at $1,000. Kitchen open, instant tickets and computers available.

Manning to present program

Traci Manning, Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s curator of education, will present “Immigration History of the Mahoning Valley” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Salem Public Library’s Quaker Room. The program will be an overview of the Mahoning Valley’s local immigration history. What attracted people to immigrate to the area? What countries were represented? Where did the immigrants find work? Included in the presentation will be maps of ethnic neighborhoods, photos, statistics and more. Registration is required at www.salempubliclibrary.org or by calling the library at 330-332-0042 for assistance. The program is open to the public and free of cost to attend.

Expert on pruning trees & shrubs

Learn expert advice about pruning trees and shrubs from professional horticulturist Ellen Speicher at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24 in Salem Public Library’s Quaker Room. Registration is required at www.salempubliclibrary.org or by calling the library at 330-332-0042 for assistance. This program is free of cost and open to the public. After earning a Biology degree at Youngstown State University, Speicher worked for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh as director of horticulture. In 2004-2014, she served as the assistant horticulture director at Mill Creek MetroParks in Youngstown.

Drive thru or dine in banquet

Salem United Methodist Church will sponsor the drive thru or dine in Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include meatball subs, corn, applesauce, salad, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and brownies. Dine in will park in designated area behind the Memorial Building and proceed to the front entrance. Drive thru will line up in the lot behind the Memorial Building, one meal per individuals in the vehicle. Do not park in the library lot. West Branch School Board

The West Branch school board has changed its meeting time today to 5 p.m. in the high school media room. There will be no work session. The meeting will still include a hearing on the retire/rehire of Walter DeShields.

Winter Stock up Sales

The Winona Ruritans are now taking orders for their “Winter Stock up Sales” of whole hog sausage and homemade scrapple. Pick up is Oct. 15 at the Winona Friends Church. To place an order contact any club member or call Lee Stamp at 330-831-8969, Homer Althouse at 330-222-1863 or Bob Doyle Sr. at 330-509-5486. No orders accepted after Sept. 30.

Pinegrove Church Craft Show

Pinegrove Church Annual Craft Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Saline Township Complex in Hammondsville. To reserve a craft table call Sue at 203-343-6323 or Keith at 740-278-5874. The cost for the tables is $20 for one and $5 for each additional. Electric is available if needed for an additional cost.

Free wildlife photo workshop

Kirk Poffenberger, creative director and owner of Design Studion in Salem, will lead a free wildlife photography workshop at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Waterworth Memorial Park Nature Trail. Guests will learn exclusive tips and tricks on how to capture wildlife in photos, no matter if it is with a DSLR, a digital point and shoot or a smartphone camera. This “Go Wild in the Park” program, provided by the Salem Public Library and Salem Parks & Recreation, is free of cost and open to the public.Poffenberger specializes in award-winning visual design, commercial art, photography, video production and writing with over 25 years experience providing creative solution, including vice president/creative at Continental Communications Inc. of Austintown and art director at Ira Thomas Associates (Marcus Thomas) in Youngstown. His resume includes over 25 national, regional and local awards for creative and artistic excellence.
