Salvation Army help for EP

CLEVELAND – Thanks to the generosity of corporate partner Giant Eagle, The Salvation Army will continue to serve families and individuals impacted by February’s train derailment in East Palestine. Giant Eagle has donated 3,000 bottles of all-purpose cleaner to The Salvation Army for distribution in both Ohio and Pennsylvania.

“We are extremely appreciative of the work The Salvation Army continues to do to support our neighbors in need in and around East Palestine,” said Giant Eagle Senior Director of Corporate Communications Dan Donovan. “Community organizations like The Salvation Army are critical resources for businesses like Giant Eagle to identify effective ways to meaningfully contribute in times of crisis, and we thank our partner for facilitating this product donation.”

The Salvation Army is providing water, food, cleaning supplies and spiritual care to families and individuals in Ohio and across state lines in Pennsylvania. Since the train derailment, The Salvation Army has distributed 11,837 cases of water, 3,300 gallons of water and 17,440 cleaning supplies to residents (stats as of March 13).

WASHINGTONVILLE — York Drexler Post 5532, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Washingtonville, recently distributed over $22,000 to assist veterans, schools, organizations and communities in the following: Joseph House for Homeless Veterans $200; Fisher-Nightingale House for housing for veterans families $1,000; Leetonia Police Department $1,000; Wild Ops for combat veterans therapy $500; Columbiana County Archives & Research Center $500; Columbiana County 4-H $2,000; Street Flags of the Village of Washingtonville $4,255; East Palestine Fire Department $2,500; East Palestine Police Department $2,500; Leetonia Class of 2024 Prom Committee $190; Columbiana County Agriculture Society $5,000; Village of Leetonia Street Flags $1,000; Buckeye Council Boy Scouts $400; Leetonia Class of 2023 $300; Brightside Project $500; and Quakertown Super Kids Soapbox Derby $250.

Beaver Creek Church Camp soup

Beaver Creek Church Camp is holding a soup sale featuring homemade chicken noodle, vegetable, ham and bean, and ham and cauliflower soup with homemade bread. Free delivery will be available to local businesses and schools in addition to pick up. Delivery will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24. Pick up will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24 and 25 at Longs Run Presbyterian Church, 15851 Longs Church Road, East Liverpool. Cost is $8 per quart of soup and $3 per loaf of bread. Banquet in Salem Thursday

Emmanuel Lutheran Church will sponsor in memory of Dorothy Gottschling the dine in or drive thru 4th Thursday Banquet from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Thursday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, peas and carrots, applesauce, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and brownies. Dine in will park behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individual in the vehicle. No parking in the library lot. Agent Insurance suit drive

The Agent Insurance Services will be holding a Suit Drive for Veterans April 3 through 28. Drop off gently used business professional attire to the Boardman or Salem offices during the month of April. Items collected will be sent to Save a Suit, an organization which provides veterans and transitioning service members with business suits, professional attire and other clothing resources they need to achieve job security. Professional business attire will be accepted for both men and women such as gently used suits, blazers, dress shirts, dress pants, tops, coats and other business attire. Accessories such as shoes, ties and belts will also be accepted. For every item one donates, they will receive one entry into a $100 Visa gift card raffle. Donations can be made at either office of The Agent Insurance Services: 6911 Bridgewood Drive in Boardman or 620 Columbia St. in Salem. Scones and jam at Smucker House

A cherry vanilla jam and fresh baked scones PopUp event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. April 1 at the Smucker House, 271 S. Broadway Ave., Salem. Cost is $15 and everyone will take a jar of jam home as well as recipes. There will also be tasting of Jam and Scones. St. George fish dinner

St. George Church, 278 W. High St., Lisbon, will hold a drive thru baked fish dinner with homemade macaroni and cheese, green beans, apple sauce and dinner roll for $14. Pre-order only by March 24 by calling or texting 330-206-0221. Pick up is from 4 to 6 p.m. March 31 at the church hall.

Emmanuel UMC pot luck dinner

Emmanuel UMC, 222 W. Martin St., East Palestine, will be hosting a Pot Luck Dinner at 5 p.m. March 26 with popcorn and a movie to follow. All are invited.

Thiel College academic honors

GREENVILLE, Pa. – A total of 58 Thiel College student-athletes were named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll for their performance in the classroom during the fall 2022 semester.
