SEBRING – The third-grade students in Leann Laure’s classroom at BL Miller Elementary School in Sebring recently went on their annual field trip to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and RainForest. This is a trip that complements a study of the life cycles of plants and animals in science and language arts. After state testing, the class emphasizes the plants and animals of the rainforest and does many educational, fun and stress-relieving activities in relation to the rainforest.

Laure is usually able to apply for a bus voucher to help drive down the cost of this fun trip, but since COVID, the funds have just not been available. Once again, when booking this year’s trip, Laure asked about the voucher and was told there weren’t any. However, several months later, Laure received an email from the zoo, stating that the Cleveland Zoological Society awarded the classroom a scholarship for the group’s zoo admission costs for all students and chaperones.

Laure and her class were touched by their generosity. The class enjoyed their trip and wrote thank you letters to the society about their fun day once back at school.
