WB Lady Ruritans welcome local artist, writer

The West Branch Area Ladies Ruritan Club met Nov. 18.

The guest speaker was Karen Biery, an artist and writer. She spoke about her journey for watercolors, oils and using waxes. Her pictures look alive. She paints pictures, cloth bags and cards with special messages. She has written books about the past happenings in the area about the prohibition era, children’s homes, etc. She encouraged getting a ride on the Salem Trolley. Her business is in Damascus on U.S. Route 62.

President Robin Mayer began the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of “God Bless America” and recitation of the Ruritan Pledge. Blanchard read a devotion.

Jean Zion read the treasurer’s report. Sandy Bates read the minutes.

The club will be ordering reading books for the third graders at West Branch.

Dec. 9 will be the Christmas dinner at Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church.

Blanchard and Mary Belle Metzgar made refreshments.
