Rodman Library January activities

ALLIANCE – Rodman Public Library will host the following events in January:

– Rodman Public Library will host a movie matinee on the big screen inside the Main Auditorium at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11. The film, which is rated PG and runs 1 hour and 42 minutes, is a 2024 animated science fiction adventure film based on a 2016 book by Peter Brown in which the main character gets shipwrecked on an island and builds relationships with local wildlife to adapt. Due to licensing agreements, Rodman Public Library cannot publicize the title of the movie in mainstream media. All movies are free at RPL and fresh popcorn is provided, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. Registration is not required. All ages are welcome to attend, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

– Rodman Public Library will host two painting events for youngsters in January. For the tiniest of patrons, those ages 2 to 6, a Lil’ Artist Paint Night will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13 in the children’s program room. During the 30-minute program, children will create a melted snowman painting. Caregivers are required to accompany their child, but do not need to reserve a spot for themselves when making a registration, which is required to attend this free event.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, those ages 7 to 12 and an adult companion are invited to participate in Paint With Me at 6 p.m. in the children’s program room. During the free 45-minute program, both the child and their caregiver will create a snowman painting. Registration is required for both the child and caregiver at rodmanlibrary.com. Materials and supplies for both programs will be provided by Friends of Rodman Public Library.

– The popular Rodman Chess Club will mark one year at Rodman Public Library when the Jan. 15 session is held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. In honor of the milestone, giveaways of club-related items will be held throughout the evening. Although it is called a club, the program has no formal membership and is open to all interested in the ancient game of strategy. Players of all ages and levels are welcome to come and go throughout the evening. Several boards are set up in the auditorium and players mingle to find opponents. Chess Club is held on the third Wednesday of each month.

– Hot Pots Storytime continues in January with a penguin theme. Children, ages 2-12, are invited to come to the RPL Branch for a mini storytime and then proceed to Hot Pots, accompanied by their guardian, to paint a penguin figurine. Those attending will also receive an adoption certificate for their new friend. Two sessions will be held, including Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. and another on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. The cost is $15.99 per child and registration is required. The fee for the event is payable to Hot Pots upon registration at hotpotspottery.com. For information, call the Branch Library at 330-821-1313.
