Appleseed meeting April 23
The Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce Johnny Appleseed Festival Planning meeting will be held Wednesday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the chamber office.
Health Coaches for Hypertension
Mahoning County Public Health is offering the Health Coaches for Hypertension Control program. The aim of this program is to improve hypertension self-management through small group educational sessions for adults aged 55 and older, covering topics such as the basics of hypertension control, nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, stress management, and medication management. Health Coaches for Hypertension is an evidence-based program that will: Increase knowledge about hypertension self-management; increase the stage of readiness to make lifestyle changes required for successful self-management; and promote behavior changes in nutrition, physical activity, stress and medication management, and tobacco cessation. Classes will begin Wednesday, April 23. Classes will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at Mahoning County Public Health, 50 Westchester Drive, Youngstown. Classes will meet once per week for eight weeks. Naloxone, fentanyl test strips distribution
Mahoning County Public Health, in partnership with BrightView Health, is conducting a naloxone and fentanyl test strips distribution opportunity for the community. Drive-thru anytime between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at BrightView Health, 930 Trailwood Drive, Boardman. Anyone can receive a free naloxone kit at the distribution events by participating in a quick training. The training includes making sure individuals can recognize an overdose and administer intranasal naloxone. In nearly 40% of overdose deaths, a bystander was present and could have saved a life if they had naloxone available. Naloxone or fentanyl test strips can also be obtained online by going to www.mahoninghealth.org/project-dawn/.
