Founder’s Day banquet
The Salem Historical Society’s 53rd annual Founders Day banquet will be held April 29 at the Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave. starting at 5 p.m. Beginning in 2006, the Salem Historical Society has honored citizens who have made significant contributions to Salem. The 2025 Citizen of Honor is David Stratton, whose volunteer work exemplified “significant contributions.” He was the director of the Salem Historical Society for many years after he retired from Salem City Schools as their curriculum director, was an active member of the Salem First Friends Church, and was a member of the Gideon Society. The dinner, prepared by A La Carte Catering, includes roast beef, chicken cordon bleu, vegetable sides, and dessert. Vegetarian requests must be made at the time of reservation. Reservations are required by April 22. Dinner is $30 per person. Payment can be made online at salemhistoricalsociety.org, in person at the Dale Shaffer Research Library during office hours (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon), or by mail to The Salem Historical Society, 208 S. Broadway, Salem, Ohio 44460. Reservations can be made by calling the historical at 330-337-8514. There will be a pick-a-prize auction with prizes provided by local businesses and a 50-50 raffle.
EP Eagles dinner
East Palestine Eagles #1506 is having its monthly drive thru dinner of sirloin tips and noodles with coleslaw, roll and dessert for $11 on Wednesday. Drive thru starts at 4 p.m. until sold out. Call 330-853-8483 to reserve a meal.
Historical society program
The Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township’s quarterly program is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the 1st Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. The program will be “WW2 Single-engine Fighter Planes” presented by Skip McCullough. The public is invited.
YAG distributions
Yeshua Assembly of God in East Liverpool will hold its food pantry (Yeshua’s Storehouse) distribution from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Storehouse/Pantry is open on the first and third Wednesdays every month. A person may visit one time per month.
The church will host its free produce giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, available to the first 200 families, limit of two families per car.
No photo ID or proof of income required for either giveaway. A person may visit both the pantry and the produce giveaway.
Mount Union concert
The Mount Union Raider Steel Band and Percussion Ensemble will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Brush Performance Hall of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. The following local students will perform at the concert: Hailey Dray of Minerva, Samantha Drysdale of Wellsville, Caden Nicholson of Alliance and Ricky Short of Salem. The program features works by Johanna Beyer, a traditional Brazilian Batucada, Bob Marley, The Police, Dennis Franklyn “Merchant” Williams, Ray Holman, Barnet “Preacher” Henry and Nana Vascancellos, among others. County seniors
Columbiana County Seniors Association will meet in the Columbiana Public Library Seniors Room from 10 a.m. to noon Friday. At noon, those interested will break up into small groups and go to lunch at a select number of local restaurants.
EPGO Group
The EPGO Group will be hosting a Mini-Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in partnership with The Chamber of Commerce Spring Fling. Residents are encouraged to stop in the Municipal Building to visit the health displays and get their blood pressure checked. Lyddy Jones, a Medicare consultant, will be there to answer questions about Medicare plan changes and selections. Karen Christian, of Christian House Assisted Living will be available to talk about the day services they provide along with residential care. Ashley from the Resiliency Center will be there to talk about mental health and have her therapy dog with her. The Columbiana County Department of Health will be supplying information about local health issues. EPGO will also be available to talk about their plans for the creation of a Telephone Buddy program, Golden Friends opportunities and their upcoming “Cake and Sweets Walk” being planned for EP’s 150th birthday celebration. Audobon Society
Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley will meet Tuesday, April 22, at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Dr, Austintown. Social time starts at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.. The month program is “Fishing is For the Birds,” a presentation by Trish Guenther. Free and open to everyone.
Heart tribute band
The Columbiana Arts Theater will host Straight On – A Tribute to the Music of Heart at 7 p.m. Friday. This premier Heart tribute band brings the legendary hits of Ann and Nancy Wilson to life with stunning accuracy and passion. Stage Left fundraiser
Niki Slaven-Rettig is bringing her Patsy Cline vocals back to the Trinity Playhouse stage as a fundraiser and with a little help from her friends. Joining her are Kandy Cleland and Christine Martin, adding harmonies, humor, and heartfelt performances. The event is set for April 26 at 7 to 9 p.m. The event is a fundraiser and a $25 ticket also includes appetizers and desserts, wine tasting and raffle drawings. Seating is limited. Paving projects in EP
The Ohio Department of Transportation’s spring/summer paving projects will begin in East Palestine on April 21. Paving will take place on state Route 170 from Taggart Street to the village limits as well as state Route 46 from Market Street to the village limits. Parking will not be permitted on Market Street once the project starts. There is a 90-day completion window.
Online Carbon Academy
OSU Extension Office will hold a zoom Carbon Academy Workshop designed by the Lal Carbon Center on April 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. This Carbon Academy event is a virtual, two-hour workshop for farmers. The workshop features several guest speakers, including Rattan Lal, Matthew Hamilton, Asmita Murumkar and Roger Williams. Additional speakers may be added. The mission of the Carbon Academy Workshop is to provide essential insights into soil carbon, carbon farming, on-farm carbon credit assessments, soil carbon measurement techniques (including remote sensing), and to explore broader topics such as policy, legal considerations, carbon as it relates to food security, societal carbon value, ecosystem services payments, and carbon market mechanisms. Lepper Library events
A Prom Prep Night will be held at Lepper Library on April 26 at 11 a.m. Attendees will be able to make a bouquet or boutonniere. A hair and nail demo will take place as well as a lesson on how to tie a tie. To reserve a spot, call the library at 330-424-3117.
On May 21, Lepper Library will host an Alzheimer’s Association “Supporting Independence” event at 4:30 p.m. Supporting Independence focuses on education and helping those living with dementia take part in daily activities, provides the right amount of support, balances safety and independence while managing expectations. East Palestine council
The regular East Palestine council meeting that was scheduled for Monday was canceled due to lack of a quorum. It is rescheduled for April 22 at 7 p.m.
