Backyard bee hives presentation
The week of June 15 is national Bee City week. The Salem Women’s Federation at 271 S. Broadway Ave. has one of three recognized Bee City Gardens in the city of Salem. To honor Bee City week on Wednesday, June 18, the Mahoning Columbiana County Beekeeper Association will present a program titled “Sustainable Backyard Bee Hives.” The program will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Smucker House and a tour of the Smucker House pollinator garden will follow. Honey samples and sales will be available.
TQGIBT June meeting set
That Quilt Group I Belong To (TQGIBT) will meet at 7 p.m. June 17 at the Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. The door will open early this month at 2:30 p.m. so that members can work together in sewing special pillow cases which will be donated to Akron Children’s Hospital. Their goal is that every child who spends a night at the hospital receives a pillow case of their own to take home. At 6:30 p.m. members will enjoy a potluck dinner followed by the installation of new officers. Members are reminded that club dues are due in June. For information, call Jeanne at 330-507-4672.
CWC to host AI tech program
The Columbiana Women’s Club (CWC), will host Dr. Eric Keylor for a discussion on the latest AI technologies during a noon lunch and learn on Saturday, July 26, at the clubhouse, 121 N. Main St., Columbiana. Participants will join Keylor to explore the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies making headlines, including hands-on experimentation with language models on their smartphones. Explore AI includes lunch and interactive session. Space is limited; RSVPs required at 330-482-2832. Cost is $20 per person cash or check only; make checks payable to Columbiana Women’s Club.
OSU Extension garden seminar
The Ohio State University Extension Mahoning County invites community members to an evening of culinary exploration at the “Flavor of the Garden: Grow, Harvest, Cook!” workshop. This hands-on event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the OSU Extension Office, located at 490 S. Broad St., Canfield. Participants will delve into the art of cultivating herbs at home, learn optimal harvesting techniques, and discover methods to preserve their freshness. The workshop culminates in a cooking demonstration, showcasing how to transform garden herbs into flavorful dishes. To register call 330-533-5538.
