Car damaged by fire in Salem Thursday
SALEM — A suspected mechanical issue was being tapped as the cause of a car fire on Southeast Boulevard near East Pershing Street Thursday morning. A woman reported she was driving the 2004 Chrysler 300 north on Southeast when flames started coming out of the hood vents on the outside. She exited the car. The fire department was dispatched to the scene at 8:04 a.m., along with police, finding heavy fire present from the engine compartment. The fire was extinguished and the hood forced open, with the battery cables disconnected. The car was towed from the scene.
