SALEM

— Firefighters were called at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of West State Street for a power pole with excessive leaning and asked Ohio Edison to be notified. No hazard was found and no power lines were down. The department also had AT&T contacted about a cable line down that was going across the tracks.

— Firefighters were called at 8:26 p.m. Tuesday, along with police, to the 700 block of Newgarden Avenue for an illegal fire. A caller who contacted police said three juveniles were playing with fire and using an accelerant. The juveniles were found inside the residence and told about the complaint. The fire was already out when the fire department arrived. The juveniles were given a warning and the parents were also advised. The police report said the juveniles were told to stop lighting things on fire.

— Firefighters were called at 1:26 p.m. Wednesday to the 700 block of East Fifth Street for an alarm going off. It was determined to be a false alarm, with the alarm malfunctioning due to a battery issue. Air quality tests were done with a gas meter, with no readings found.

— Both the police and fire departments were called to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and Superior at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday for a vehicle on fire. The cause of the fire which damaged a 2002 Mercury Villager was undetermind. Firefighters found a minivan with heavy smoke pushing from the passenger compartment and fire in the engine compartment. The fire was knocked down, along with possible hot spots, with the fire contained to the engine compartment and smoke damage throughout the vehicle. The owner was able to retrieve some belongings from the vehicle which was towed from the scene. The owner said he wasn’t injured and no one was inside the vehicle. He told police the vehicle started to overheat and then shut off. He was advised by a citizen driving behind him that the vehicle was on fire.

— A ticking noise was reported coming from a meter in front of a residence in the 1000 block of West Perry Street at 9:01 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters heard a slight noise coming from an electric transformer. Ohio Edison was called and found no issues.
