Salineville man hurt in tractor rollover

Staff Report

SALINEVILLE — A state Route 644 man was flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital after the tractor he was operating rolled over on him at 11:24 a.m. Monday.

Village Police Chief Matt Devlin said the accident occurred just outside of town at the Jerry Rhodes residence. He said the 75-year-old Rhodes was pulling a trailer filled with what appeared to be stump grindings when the rig overturned on a hillside, pinning him underneath.

Devlin said Rhodes, whom he knows, was conscious and able to speak with him as they waited while firefighters from Salineville, Franklin Township and Highlandtown arrived to help lift the tractor and trailer without causing him any further damage.

The ambulance called to the scene could not get to Rhodes because the accident occurred at the bottom of a hill, so a fire department SUV was used to get him to level ground, where he was stabilized before being flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.

The entire process took about two hours.
