POLICE REPORTS

SALEM TWP.

— A Farrington Road resident reported at 5:47 p.m. Sunday she had received several unwanted telephone calls and her husband had received multiple social media messages from a person they know. The person was contacted and told to cease contact with the complainants.

SALEM

— Officers responded to a 900 block Jones Drive home at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday where the residents reported the basement wall had collapsed. The fire department arrived and began shutting off utilities. The fire department stood by until the utility companies arrived.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Ash Street at 8:09 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a vehicle fire. They stood by until the fire department arrived.

— An officer responded to the 500 block of East Euclid Street at 8:14 a.m. Tuesday where a bus driver reported a male motorist had passed her while she was picking up a resident. The driver said she believed it was illegal for motorists to pass the bus while it was stopped with its flashers on during a pick up. The officer noted that it is not a school bus and does not have red flashing lights that make it illegal, but that the motorist would be contacted and advised of the complaint. The resident also asked that the area be patrolled more since motorists frequently speed.

— A 100 block Fair Avenue resident reported at 1:11 p.m. Tuesday an unknown person had removed her wallet from her home without her permission.

— An officer responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2200 block of East State Street at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday in which one vehicle slightly bumped the rear of another during stop-and-go moderate traffic. Due to the lack of damage and no injuries, no citation was issued.

— A 17-year-old North Lima resident was charged with disorderly conduct and transported to the Tobin Center after officers responded to an 800 block East Fifth Street home where another juvenile reported she had been in a physical altercation with the suspect, who fled the scene. When officers found the suspect, she refused to cooperate and became combative.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Pershing Street at 2:43 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a fight and found a male individual attempting to get off the ground with the help of several other male individuals. The three men involved said they had been in a verbal dispute which turned into a wrestling match. They were all intoxicated and agreed to go inside for the night. They each had apparent small injuries but refused medical attention. They were issued disorderly conduct warnings.

COLUMBIANA

— Randy Renfro, 37, address not listed, was arrested on a county sheriff’s warrant at 5:49 p.m. Tuesday on North Middle Street.

— Police investigated a report at 5:19 p.m. Monday a kid making threats against another kid on North Middle Street. It was found not to be criminal.

EAST PALESTINE

— Police were called to a West Martin Street home at 2:05 p.m. June 10 for a report that a man was threatening self harm. Police contacted the man who said that he was having relationship issues but that he had no intentions of harming himself nor did he ever make mention of doing so.

— Police gave a man a courtesy ride to Boardman at 3:08 p.m. on June 10.

— Brandon Hacker, 26, address not listed, was arrested on a county sheriff’s warrant at 7:54 p.m. June 10 on South Market Street near Garfield Avenue.

— Police were called to an East Clark Street home at 7:55 a.m. June 11 for a report of a domestic in progress. The woman reported that her husband was beating her. Police spoke with her husband, who said that he was sleeping on the couch and his wife woke him up yelling at him because she was upset he wasn’t gone for work and that she hit him in the head with an Axe body spray can and also tried coming at him with a pointed fingernail file. The man told police that all he did was push her because she was attacking him. When his wife overheard his side of the story she reportedly started yelling that she would cut her husband’s throat and go to jail. Her husband said he did not want her to get in trouble and that he would be leaving the house that afternoon. Police returned to the home later that day to conduct a welfare check on the woman after she sent several alarming text messages to a family member. The woman, Brittany Lynn Ruff, 25, was subsequently arrested when she became belligerent and uncooperative with police.

— Police were called to an East North Avenue home at 4:42 p.m. June 11 for an unknown disturbance. Allison Maria Shipe, 50, was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to the county jail.

— Police were called to a West Taggart Street laundromat at 6:57 a.m. June 12 for a suspicious person. Police found a man sleeping on a bench. The man told police that his girlfriend kicked him out of the car and he stopped there and fell asleep. He told police that he needed to call someone for a ride but his phone was dead. The man was told he could not stay there and to move on. He left without any problems.

— Police were called to an East Taggart Street business at 12:03 p.m. June 12 for a dispute. Police spoke to the business owner who claimed he was a having a dispute with a customer over a job that was not yet complete and a refund. The business owner said he was concerned that if the customer returned it could become physical. Police spoke with the customer and explained that the situation was civil and how to get the information and file small claim at the county municipal court.

— Police were called to a home on Bacon Avenue home at 5:26 p.m. June 12 for a report that several people on motorcycles followed the resident into his driveway and proceeded to berate him about his driving. Police motorcyclists were gone when police arrived.

— Police assisted the county sheriff’s office with two arrest warrants in the 200 block of West Clark Street at 7:35 p.m. June 12. Both men were taken into custody without incident.

— Police were called to a South Market Street business at 1:14 a.m. June 13 after a woman reported seeing strange activity around the garage. Police checked but found no one.

— An East Palestine woman who took ownership of a McClure Avenue home requested police collect various items and narcotic paraphernalia that she recovered while cleaning out the home at 7:37 a.m. June 13. Police collected the items and disposed of them safely.

— Police happened upon a verbal dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend on West North Avenue at 12:09 p.m. June 13. Police were able to resolve the situation and the woman gathered her property and left. No physical altercations were reported.

— Police were called to a North Market Street business at 1:23 p.m. Friday for an employee that was reported to be making a scene in the dining area after she was asked to leave. Police spoke with the woman outside of the business and she complained that the caller came in intoxicated and gave her a hard time. Police accompanied her back inside to gather her belongings. She left without incident advising that she would not be returning.

— Police were called to an East North Avenue home at 1:47 p.m. Friday for a report of a neighbor dispute. A man reported that his neighbor had constructed a makeshift barrier between their properties consisting of metal poles, stakes, a pool liner, pool chairs, a child’s bike and two lawn mowers. Police spoke with the woman, who said it was done in retaliation for the man mowing part of her lawn and allowing his dog to do its business in her yard sometimes. Police told the woman to clean up the items to avoid further conflict with the neighbors.

— Police were called to a East North Avenue home at 12:15 p.m. Saturday for a report that a neighbor was antagonizing him by placing trash and dirt from her garden on the property line. Police spoke with the neighbor, who said that she was creating a fence on the property line because she did not want her neighbor in her yard and she was tired of his dog using the bathroom in her yard. Police told her that if she left trash on the property line she would be fined for violating the zoning ordinance. The woman told police that she has wanted to put up a fence for a long time and finally has the money to do it. Police told her that was fine but that she needed to get a permit to do so. Police also told her to not contact her neighbor and not even look in his direction. Police spoke with the man and also told him to stay out of her yard and not give her a reason to cause a commotion.

— Police were called to an East North Avenue home at 7:26 p.m. Saturday for a report that a company cutting a property with extremely high grass refused to even attempt to clean up the mess left by the high grass. An investigation is pending as police are checking to determine what charges can be filed on the company employees.

— Police checked on the welfare of an East Palestine resident who had called Boardman Township 911 at 6:15 a.m. Sunday to report his stomach hurt and he seemed confused as to where he was. Police checked the man’s home and found he was not there after speaking with his wife who reported that he was in a nursing home. The man was found to be in the care of a nursing home and being taken care of.

— A citizen reported at 5 p.m. Sunday they could hear someone yelling from inside of a van that was parked in the alley behind the old Exon gas station near East Clark Street. Police found a man in the van with some children inside and the man said he was yelling at the children for opening a seasoning packet in the back of the van and throwing it all over the van while they waited for their pizza to be cooked at Pizza Hut.

— Police attempted a traffic stop on a white Pontiac at 10:43 p.m. Sunday on East Taggart Street after seeing it go left of center but the vehicle fled into Pennsylvania. Charges are pending.

— Police were called to North Sumner Street at 9:37 p.m. Monday for a report of a dog tied to a tree and barking. Police found the dog had been taken inside before they arrived.

— Police arrested Daniel Mathes, 27, address not listed, on a warrant from the county sheriff’s office during a traffic stop on East Main Street at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday. Mathes was turned over to a sheriff’s deputy and taken to the county jail.

— Police were called to a Moore Lane home at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday after a woman reported hearing someone inside the locked house. Police checked but found the home to be empty and no signs that someone had been inside.

LISBON

–Police were called to Applegrove Apartments at 12:09 a.m. Wednesday after resident said he saw smoke coming from a room. The officer noticed some smoke coming from a vent and tenants were evacuated. The fire department arrived and determined the smoke was actually water vapor. Police were called back at 1:35 a.m. because another resident still thought there was a fire. Police assured her that was not the case and walked her back to her apartment.

–A woman at the local women’s shelter called at 12:44 a.m. Wednesday to say she believed she was being followed. The woman had moved here from another state to get away from her husband, who she said pulled a gun on her at one point and against whom she has a protection order. She also said there were a couple of other people following her. The woman asked to stay at the police station with her children, but police told her they did not have the accommodations to do that. Lisbon police then called the local police where the woman was from and they said while her husband has been involved in some domestic issues, he has never been charged with anything and has not caused any problems. The officer said the woman has mental issues and may be off her medication.

–James R. Brorman, 36, North Market St., was charged at 11 p.m. Saturday with domestic violence, assaulting an EMT, resisting arrest and inhaling gasoline, also known as huffing. The arrest occurred after police were called to the East of Chicago parking lot by Brorman’s stepmother while he was across the street in the Circle K parking lot. The stepmother said Brorman has been huffing and assaulted her, and she was prepared to file charges unless he agreed to be taken to a local hospital to be examined. Brorman denied assaulting his stepmother and there was no physical evidence to prove her claim. While being questioned by police Brorman struck a Ninja pose until the officer told him to stop. He refused to go with the ambulance crew that had been called to the scene, even after being told his stepmother was going to press charges, so police began to arrest him. Brorman resisted and an EMT had to help the officers get him handcuffed and into the police SUV, and all the while he screamed and kicked at them. Brorman threatened the one officer, who smelled gasoline on his breath, prompting the officer to tell him “get your breath off me because it stinks like gasoline.” The EMT later told the officer Brorman struck him in the face during the struggle.

–A semi driven by Quoc Tuan Nguyen of Irving, Texas, struck the mirror on a Ford Edge operated by Martha E. Pugh of Chester, W.Va., at intersection of North Market Street and Lincoln Way at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday. Both drivers exchanged insurance information.
