FIRE CALL

SALEM

— A resident called at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday to report an unknown odor at a friend’s house in the 600 block of South Union Avenue. The homeowner was away, but the resident met fire department personnel at the house and opened the door. Upon entering, firefighters found a sulphur-type odor present just inside the door. The odor smelled like it came from stagnant water. All levels of the home were searched with a gas meter and nothing explosive was found. The smell dissipated while firefighters were there, with no cause found.
