Woman charged with benefit fraud

LISBON — Helen L. Hoffman-Minger, 51, Union Street, Columbiana, was served a secret indictment charged with illegal use of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits or WIC program benefits, as well as medicaid fraud. Starting on Nov. 1, 2017 through March 31, 2019, Hoffman-Minger allegedly received Medicaid benefits after providing false or misleading statements. Then starting on March 1, 2018 and continuing through March 31, 2019 she allegedly used, transferred or possessed SNAP benefits.

Jesse S. McVey, 19, Center Avenue, Lisbon, was served a secret indictment charging him with burglary and grand theft of a motor vehicle. On Aug. 27, 2018, McVey allegedly trespassed into the state Route 164, Lisbon, home of Kathy Laughlin and Michael Beverly, stealing Beverly’s 1999 Ford F250 pickup.

Johnathon M. Weaver, 31, Bye Road, East Palestine, was served a secret indictment charged with possession of a fentanyl-related compound and aggravated possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony. On June 19, 2019, Weaver allegedly had a fentanyl-related compound and carfentanil.

The indictments were issued by the grand jury in September.
