Local drug case over, murder trial next

LISBON — A Youngstown area man awaiting extradition to Sharon, Pa. where he faces a criminal homicide charge for his alleged involvement in a home robbery shooting death there was sentenced in county Common Pleas Court Friday to two years in prison for eight-drug related charges here. Eddie J. Robinson Jr., 25, Youngstown, pleaded guilty earlier in October to eight drug-related counts. He has an upcoming extradition hearing in county Municipal Court before Judge Tim McNicol on Monday because of the Pennsylvania warrant. The charges here are tampering with evidence, trafficking in drugs and six counts of possession of drugs. Court documents state that on July 27, 2017, Robinson had heroin, carfentanil and crack cocaine, baggies of which he is accused of removing or hiding. Additionally, on Nov. 1, 2017, Robinson had cocaine, heroin and clonazepam. The indictment in this county was issued by the grand jury in August 2018. When Robinson, also known as Jo Jo, was arraigned in Common Pleas Court in June 2019, County Prosecutor Robert Herron had indicated Robinson was a suspect in a homicide in Sharon, Pa. where he was allegedly connected with the home robbery and shooting death of Khalil “Champ” Hopson, 24, in May.At that time, Robinson had only been charged with possession of a firearm, while a co-defendant Alexis Evonna Holmes, 20, New Castle, Pa., had been charged with homicide, robbery, burglary and solicitation to commit robbery and burglary.
