SALEM REPORTS

— Police responded to Smith Oil on East State Street after a passerby at 1:31 a.m. Saturday reported a dark-colored SUV parked at one of the fuel pumps after business hours. Nobody was found.

— An officer at 1:26 a.m. Saturday saw vehicles behind the high school and learned a juvenile was dropping off another person at their vehicle. The juvenile contacted a parent who spoke with the officer. They were told about curfew and to go home.

— A parking complaint was reported at 11:01 p.m. Friday on North Howard Avenue. The driver was leaving as police arrived and was told to keep the driveway clear.

— Police were called at 10:41 p.m. Friday to Salem Regional Medical Center regarding an infant who received a burn to his leg. Police and medical personnel determined it was accidental.

— A caller at 10:38 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of East Fourth Street reported someone using power tools in a garage. They called back and told police to disregard because the garage closed up for the night.

— A caller at 10:28 p.m. Friday reported hearing a loud bang on a window, but officers found no one.

— A woman in the 300 block of South Lincoln Avenue reported at 9:12 p.m. Friday that someone removed a video game system and remote control from her home.

— Police responded at 8:10 p.m. Friday to Circle K East, East State Street, for an intoxicated male, seeing him standing outside the front door and nearly fall. He was identified and given a ride home by a friend.

— Joseph Ross, 21, of Fair Avenue, and Jacob Hendricks, 20, of Alliance, were each charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Columbiana County jail after a traffic stop at 7:50 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of West State Street. K-9 Simon indicated to the presence of a narcotic odor. Contraband was recovered and two occupants, Ross and Hendricks, were arrested. The driver was given a warning for traffic violations. Additional charges may be pending lab results.

— A hit/skip accident was reported at 7:20 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of East State Street when an eastbound vehicle attempting a lane change into the right lane was struck by another eastbound vehicle which allegedly sped up from behind the first vehicle and attempted to pass on the right in the turning lane. The second vehicle fled the scene.

— A neighbor dispute was reported at 7:01 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Maple Street where a male juvenile was throwing food over a fence into a woman’s yard. He was told to stop.

— A dog was reported at large in the 300 block of East Seventh Street at 6:47 p.m. Friday. The caller said the dog may be vicious. No dog was found.

— Officers were flagged down at Centennial Park at 6:06 p.m. Friday by a woman regarding a child custody/visitation matter. She has foster care of her grandchild and the parents were there for a visit when a verbal dispute over custody started between the grandparents and parents. The issue was a matter handled by Perry Township Police so Perry was contacted and handled the call.

— Police were called at 5:56 p.m. Friday to check the well-being of a person who appeared to be sleeping in the middle of the park. Police made contact and he said he was fine. He was told to be mindful of the park hours if he’s falling asleep in the evenings there.

— A verbal dispute between family members was reported at 4:25 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard. One person left until the situation calms down.

— A juvenile problem was reported at 3:44 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Superior. Officers spoke with the juveniles and they went home.

— Police responded to Walmart on East State Street for a call at 3:41 p.m. Friday about a suspicious male going up to people with a clipboard and asking an unknown question. No one was found.

— A juvenile problem was reported at 2:43 p.m. Friday at Centennial Park. Officers spoke with the juveniles, then the parks director arrived and they were told the consequences if their action continues.

— A clerk at Smith Oil, on East State Street, reported at 1:46 p.m. Friday that someone drove off without paying for $10 worth of gas.

— A domestic was reported at 11:31 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard where a woman argued with her daughter over her boyfriend. Nothing physical took place. Officers advised she’s an adult and can talk to whoever she wishes. The other person said it was only verbal.

— Police responded at 11:29 a.m. Friday to the 800 block of East Third Street for a juvenile problem, speaking with a juvenile and his stepmother. The juvenile agreed to go into the residence and listen to his parents.

— Keys found in the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue were dropped off at the police station at 10:17 a.m. Friday.

— A woman from East Rochester reported at 9:50 a.m. Friday that she was assaulted by a tenant in the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue. The tenant alleged the woman attacked her first. Both were told the prosecutor’s office would receive the report and determine if or what charges could be filed. The report said the woman was not happy with this and claimed officers were doing nothing.

— A parking complaint was reported in the 700 block of East Fifth Street at 9:30 a.m. Friday for a vehicle not moved in a month and without a plate on it. Officers issued a parking citation for failure to display registration and put a warning tag for moving the vehicle.

— A woman in the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue reported at 8:07 a.m. Friday that someone entered her unattached garage and took money from her vehicle.

— Police were called at 7:55 a.m. Friday to the 1600 block of Shady Lane to check the well-being of a resident after a neighbor had not seen her in two days. The woman was fine.

— An animal complaint was reported at 7:43 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of Continental Drive, but the animal was gone when police arrived.

— A caller at 6:49 a.m. Friday reported at vehicle blocking the sidewalk in the 1100 block of East Third Street. Persons were contacted who said they would take care of the problem.

— Police were called at 6:04 a.m. Friday to the 1600 block of East State Street where parents said their daughter did not wish to go to school. Police spoke to the juvenile, who said she would go.

— An alarm was reported at 2:21 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of East Third Street, but the building was secure.

— Police were called at 1:39 a.m. Sunday to Southeast Boulevard and Tanglewood for a group of people smashing pumpkins on the road. The group was located in a private drive in the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard. They were identified and found to be smashing their own pumpkins that one of them purchased earlier. They cleaned up and went inside for the evening.

— Contraband was removed from a juvenile passenger in a vehicle stopped at 1:28 a.m. Sunday on Sharp Avenue near East State Street. The juvenile was released to a legal guardian who was told charges would be sent to juvenile court. The driver received a written warning for no license plate light.

— K-9 Simon was requested for an open air sniff during a traffic stop handled by the Ohio State Highway Patrol on North Lincoln Avenue at the U.S. Route 62 bypass at 1:05 a.m. Sunday. He indicated to the presence of a narcotics odor. Contraband was removed from the vehicle.

— A domestic in progress was reported at 11:27 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Franklin where yelling could be heard coming from the rear of a residence. Some people were horsing around on a trampoline and told to keep the noise down.

— Police were called at 11:19 p.m. Saturday to the 300 block of West Eighth Street for people around a vacant home with flashlights. Contact was made with two people, one who used to live there, who said they were given permission to retrieve a washing machine. Everything was ok.

— An assault was reported at 9:56 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of East Fourth Street where a translator had to be called to assist due to a language barrier with the alleged assault victim. The victim had answered the door after he heard knocks on his front door. When he opened it, two males in masks who spoke Spanish assaulted him and then fled on foot. The victim had a minor abrasion to his elbow. An investigation is pending.

— City officers were called to assist Perry Township Police at 9:37 p.m. Saturday at Georgetown Road and the state Route 45 bypass. A person was detained without incident before the city unit arrived. City officers checked on the Perry unit, then left.

— Police responded to the 100 block of Rose for a warrant check at 8:51 p.m. Saturday and made contact with the person, officers observing drug paraphernalia sticking out of the person’s front pants pocket. He was detained, the warrant confirmed, and other contraband was located on him, but officers spoke to the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and due to his recent medical issues, he was released. He was told he would face new charges and deal with the active warrant at a later date.

— Police were called at 7:41 p.m. Saturday to Aaron’s rental in the 2900 block of East State Street for a business truck with the lights left on. The truck was secure.

— Police responded to the 8700 block of Salem-Unity Road for a report at 7:05 p.m. Saturday of a possible fight. Officers found a large group of people who were part of the track team having a get-together and playing football in the front yard. Officers found no problems and played a few minutes of football with them prior to leaving.

— Michael Riley, 40, of Maple Street, was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to the Columbiana County jail after an off-duty police officer reported an intoxicated male at 6:01 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue. Upon arrival, it was discovered officers had dealt with the male three times in the past 24 hours for intoxication and he had been warned. He was highly intoxicated and unable to give straight answers.

— A credit card found in the 2800 block of East State Street was turned over to police at 12:47 p.m. Saturday and placed in lost and found.

— Police checked the 800 block of East Sixth Street at 12:37 p.m. Saturday for a missing juvenile for Alliance Police. An officer spoke with the resident outside her home. The report said she was not friendly towards the officer who asked if the girl was there because she had been reported missing. The resident said there were no juveniles there except for a very young one and that she was tired of police showing up at her home. She said she was calling Alliance Police to see who’s making these things up and possibly seek legal advice, as she was embarrassed. Officers had no probable cause or suspicion that the girl was there at that time and left.

— A dispute was reported at 12:24 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of North Howard Avenue where a man from Hudson said he issued a five-day notice to the person renting an apartment from him. He said the person’s friend threatened him with violence if he did not leave. He and the person went outside to discuss the matter, which is when the friend again made threatening remarks. He just wanted the incident on file in case further issues occur.

— Police were called at 6:49 a.m. Saturday to the 300 block of Vine Avenue to check the well-being of a person. The person’s wife had been trying to reach him for sometime and he would not answer. Officers found that he slept through his alarm.

— An intoxicated person was reported at 6:27 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Maple Street. A man at the residence was upset due to the fact he believed his girlfriend had taken some of his belongings. He was told his options.

— Police were dispatched at 5:25 a.m. Saturday to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Franklin for a male walking in and out of traffic. He was located in the 1400 block of Franklin intoxicated. He was given a ride home and a warning for public intoxication.

NEW WATERFORD REPORTS

— Police at 9:48 a.m. Saturday responded to the 3700 block of Silliman Street for a complaint of a suspicious vehicle parking in a parking lot for several hours with people inside. Officers made contact with the occupants who said they ran out of gas and had no money or anyone who could bring them money. The occupants were given money to get gas at the New Waterford Food Mart and they were then on their way to their original destination.

— Officers at 4:15 p.m. Thursday spoke to a male on Village Park Drive regarding a custody issue and gave him his options.

— Police arrived at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday to the 3200 block of Creek Road for an unruly juvenile. An officer spoke with the juvenile and mother and explained their options.

— Police responded at 12:32 p.m. Oct. 8 to the 3200 block of Creek Road for a well-being check. The person in question was ok.

— Police responded at 8:06 a.m. Oct. 4 to the 3700 block of Boardman Street for a theft involving numerous vehicles being ransacked overnight. The incident is under investigation.

— A suspicious male was reported walking through a yard and being loud late Oct. 1, early Oct. 2 in the 46000 block of South State Street. No one was located.
