POLICE REPORTS

SALEM

— Suspicious activity was reported at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday in the area of West School Street and East Seventh Street where two people told police they lost a key in the yard and couldn’t find it. Officers helped in the search but could not locate the key.

— Police were called at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue where a woman wanted to pick up a phone she bought for her uncle, which was at her father’s house. Her father said he bought the phone and was not giving it back. Neither could prove ownership at the time so she left and the phone stayed there.

— A landlord/tenant issue was reported at 3:44 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Walnut Street. The landlord said a tenant had moved out and returned the key but had arranged to retrieve some personal property still inside. She had not been totally evicted and was given a three-day notice. She apparently decided not to move out because she had not been evicted. The landlord said the tenant damaged a window to gain access to the locked residence and he was told by police he could seek restitution through a civil matter and should follow through with the eviction. Another officer had spoken with the tenant and landlord earlier the same day. Police had been called when the woman reported her landlord locked her out without going through the eviction process. She had been told her options.

— A suspicious person was reported at 3:41 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of South Lundy Avenue where a woman said a person was asking her unusual questions and wanting to use her phone. The person left before police arrived and could not be found.

— A woman reported at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday that two separate people cashed bad checks at the Attic on South Broadway. Both checks were returned as closed accounts or unable to locate accounts for the people, who were from out of town. The checks totaled $179 and $134. A report was filed and she was told to contact the prosecutor’s office for how to file a bad check case.

— A woman from Newgarden Avenue spoke to police at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday about a known male making slanderous statements against her. She was told it would be documented but she would need to consult an attorney due to slander/libel matters not being handled by police.

— Police were called at 2 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue for a parking complaint regarding vehicles blocking the roadway and entrance into a business off of Second Street. The road workers were told to move the vehicles from the street.

— Fire department first responders and KLG ambulance were called to the high school at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday for a medical issue.

— A woman came to the police station at 1:21 p.m. Tuesday to report she accidentally struck a pole while turning onto State Street near Heggy’s.

— No citation was issued after an incident involving a pickup and a motorcycle occurred on South Cunningham Road near the Walmart entrance at 12:41 p.m. Tuesday. There was no collision but a motorcycle was traveling north on Cunningham when a pickup attempted to turn left out of a plaza parking lot on the west side. The motorcyclist said he had to hit his brake hard to avoid crashing into the truck, lost control of the motorcycle and laid it down in the road. He suffered a scuffed knee but declined medical treatment. The pickup driver said his view was obstructed by some bushes to the south when he started to pull out and did not see the motorcycle. He did not hit the motorcycle. The report said the motorcycle had the right of way.

— A person to be removed was reported at 12:37 p.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of Southeast Boulevard. Police saw the person walking away from the area and made contact. He said it was his friend’s house. He was told he was not welcome at the residence and not to return.

— Damage to a light pole was reported at 11:49 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of South Lundy Avenue. The city electrician responded.

— An anonymous caller at 11:21 a.m. Tuesday reported cruelty to animals in the 800 block of West Wilson Street. Police located the animal and saw no signs of neglect.

— Police were called at 11:11 a.m. Tuesday to the 800 block of East Sixth Street for a report of a male trespassing on a property after being evicted. The male said he just wanted to get his personal property from the garage, then he would leave. The caller agreed for him to get his property and officers stood by until he left.

— Parking citations were issued at 9:29 a.m. Tuesday to two vehicles parked in a prohibited zone on Vine Street just south of East Third Street.

— Police were called at 8:38 a.m. Tuesday to the 2300 block of Southeast Boulevard for an irate male making threats to a doctor and staff via telephone. The caller didn’t want charges filed but wanted the male to never come back to the office. Police made contact with the male and he said he would not return.

— A caller at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday reported at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday that a semi truck was off the state route on South Lincoln Avenue. The truck had already passed through and was no longer in the area when police arrived.

PERRY TOWNSHIP

— Tammy Glen, 55, of Lisbon, was cited for expired tag and driving under 12-point suspension after a traffic stop at 5:59 a.m. Wednesday on Snyder Road at South Lincoln Avenue.

— Police were called to a medical call at 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of Newgarden Avenue, along with fire department first responders. The woman caller’s two sons were in the living room and claimed to have been smoking marijuana with a friend. Both were transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by KLG for medical treatment. The friend left before emergency personnel arrived and the two males did not know his last name.

— A man in the 1200 block of Depot Road reported at 5:31 p.m. Tuesday that he was assaulted by a neighbor. Police watched the man’s surveillance video and saw the neighbor go onto his property and confront his son. The video then showed the man come out of the house and the neighbor taunted him along with smacking the ball hat off of his head. The neighbor, Rick Hickman, of Depot Road, was charged with disorderly conduct by fighting.

— A 17-year-old girl from Hanoverton was cited for assured clear distance ahead after her northbound vehicle on state Route 9 struck the rear of another northbound vehicle operated by Joey Smith, 38, of Warren, who was stopped on state Route 9 at state Route 45 at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

— Police were called at 5:28 p.m. Monday to the 1000 block of Cunningham Road for a third time for cows running at large and near the road. The female resident said her husband was out attempting to get them back into the fence. She was advised they need to remedy the problem immediately or they’ll be subject to being cited.

LEETONIA

— An officer responded to the area of Main and Chestnut streets at 7:16 p.m. Tuesday in reference to four suspicious males looking at the village’s Christmas tree and possibly planning to take it. The officer found the tree undisturbed.

— An officer responded to the 300 block of Chestnut Street at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday to assist EMS on a medical call and helped lift the patient into the ambulance.

— An officer responded to Chestnut Street at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a male standing in the middle of the roadway making traffic go around him. The officer found a High Street resident known to have mental issues walking to the library. He was advised to use the sidewalk and not walk in the roadway.
