POLICE REPORTS

PERRY TWP.

— Police spoke with a woman from the 500 block of West Pidgeon Road at 12:45 p.m. Sunday regarding the theft of an enclosed trailer from her driveway. The trailer was entered into the law enforcement data base and was recovered in Niles by the owner.

— A woman spoke to police at 12:07 p.m. Sunday regarding a custody dispute with her soon-to-be ex-husband. She was told since they are still married and no custody plan has been provided by the courts, she needs to speak to her attorney.

— Rick Hickman, 43, of Depot Road, was cited for disorderly conduct for unreasonable noise after police were called to his residence in the 1200 block for the second time within an hour for a noise complaint at 12:09 a.m. Sunday. He was advised again about the loud music and was cited since he had already been warned earlier about the loud music at 10:51 p.m. Saturday.

— Officers were called at 8 p.m. Saturday to the 300 block of Roosevelt to assist Salem Police with a possible assault, learning there had been an altercation at the residence, not an assault. Township police remained on the scene with a detained person until Salem could investigate, then transported her to her residence on Woodland Avenue, due to Salem’s high call volume.

— Jack Colon, 59, of Leetonia, was taken into custody on an active warrant out of Columbiana County for failure to appear after a traffic stop at 5:25 p.m. Saturday on South Lincoln Avenue at Golf Club Road. Colon was turned over to a sheriff’s deputy for transport to jail. His vehicle was removed from the scene by a family member.

— Officers responded to a possible overdose in the 1100 block of Prospect Street Extension at 8:19 p.m. Friday, but before they arrived, the caller called back and said everything was all right. He said he panicked when he could not wake his son, who was in a deep sleep and not overdosed.

SALEM

— Police responded at 2:49 a.m. Monday for a report of juveniles in the street in the 400 block of Reilly. Police found one adult male and one male juvenile throwing a football on the football field. They were identified and left.

— An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper requested K-9 Simon at 12:37 a.m. Monday for a free air sniff of a vehicle on the state Route 45 bypass at Georgetown Road. K-9 Simon indicated to the presence of a narcotic odor and items were recovered from the vehicle. The Salem officers stood by while the trooper completed the investigation.

— A caller at 11:58 p.m. Sunday reported several juveniles in the 500 block of South Madison entering vehicles and looking through them. No one was found.

— Police were called at 10:10 p.m. Sunday to the 600 block of East Third Street for persons who were not supposed to be at a residence. Officers located a male and two females, learning the male was the uncle of the male tenant who’s currently incarcerated and the two females were friends of the tenant. They were there to check on the residence and found the back door partially open and found a window on the front door shattered. Contact was made with the tenant at the jail and it was determined at least two items were stolen. The tenant said the people who were at the residence were allowed to be there.

— Police responded to Smith Center apartments, 500 E. Fourth St., at 9:34 p.m. Sunday for an unknown alarm activation. A resident said another resident had fallen and needed help to get up. Police remained while fire department first responders checked on the other resident.

— A dog was reported at large in the 500 block of Washington at 7:56 p.m. Sunday. Police initially found the dog, but it ran off and couldn’t be found.

— Kaleb Messersmith, 19, of Lexington Avenue, was cited for assured clear distance ahead, marked lanes and possession of marijuana after the eastbound car he was driving traveled left of center outside his lane of travel and struck a westbound pickup which was stationary at the time at 6:13 p.m. Sunday. The report said the driver of the pickup, Robert Jackson, 37, of Roosevelt Avenue, saw the other vehicle was in the wrong lane and stopped. No injuries were reported, but both vehicles were disabled. Contraband was recovered from the Messersmith vehicle.

— A bank card recovered in the 400 block of Continental Drive was turned over to police at 3:15 p.m. Sunday. An attempt was made to contact the owner, but no one called back at that time.

— Police responded at 1:47 p.m. Sunday to the 2400 block of East State Street to the Giant Eagle parking lot for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. A 66-year-old woman from Park Avenue said she was struck in the left side by a vehicle while walking through the lot. She said she spoke to the driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old woman from Salem, and did not need any medical attention.

— A man on East Fifth Street spoke with an officer at 12:38 p.m. Sunday about someone known to him contacting his friends. He was told his options.

— Police spoke with a man at 12:26 p.m. Sunday about a situation concerning a tenant at one of his rental properties on Fair Avenue. He was told his options.

— Police answered a parking complaint at 11:18 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Woodland. The vehicle owner was contacted and moved the vehicle.

LISBON

— Brandi N. Kay, 29, of Malvern and Gabrielle M. Schear, 28, of Canton, were cited for possessing marijuana following a traffic stop on state Route 154 at 1:42 a.m. Sunday. Police pulled Kay over for weaving, which she blamed on the steering wheel. Kay said they were on their way home after having been at Mountaineer Resort & Casino. While speaking with them, police could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and the drug dog Hunter from county sheriff’s office was brought to the scene. Hunter detected contraband and a search of the vehicle resulted in the confiscation of a small amount of marijuana.

EAST PALESTINE

— A Malibu Drive resident reported that a U-Haul truck from a neighbor’s house drove into his yard causing damage at 3:05 p.m. Saturday.

— An officer responded to a Bacon Avenue residence on the report of a domestic situation at 4:20 p.m. Saturday. The primary aggressor had left the residence before the officer arrived. Charges are pending.

— Police discovered a junk motor vehicle parked behind Threshold on Sumner Street at 10:18 a.m. Saturday. The vehicle had four flat tires and expired registration. The vehicle’s owner will be served with a zoning violation notice, allowing them up to 10 days to remove the vehicle from the property or be issued a citation for the offense.
